How about the permission of the author. Will you allow any modifications or translation. Some also ask that the name of the author must be acknowledge in any distribution or public display of the material.

I respect though the rights of the authors, publishers, and copyright owners to sell and earn from the fruit of their labors.

Some are driven by materialistic ends but some just want to sustain their basic personal, family, or congregational needs.

As scripture tells us, we are not our own, we are bought with a price, 1 Cor 6v20.

Lord, help us to be slaves to righteousness, that we would not be slaves to sin.

Is that the permission of the author, or Author?

Take for example the bible?

Can any man claim authorship or copyright for it.

What are we paying for to get one, is it for its physical components, is it for the translators, is it for the recovery of the cost for making the particular version, is it for its market value as endorsed by the 'experts' and public opinion, or it is just but a pure business for business sake.

I guess we could simply print our own Bibles at home.

It would take a lot of time, and a little money, but at least we would have one.

Actually, I do have a Bible that is not copyrighted.

But, so what?

There are ministry out there that I know of that their copyright is your right to copy they don't care if you copy their work the leader even says take my notes and erase my name and put yours on it and claim it for yourself if you want. There was posted a while back a downloadable version of the KJV that you actually could use and print yourself, I used it to highlight and make notes of 1st John.

there are different kinds of copyright, some have some requirements others are free to copy as long as you provide the source and do not alter any content. But almost all new versions have restrictions that are almost found on the publishers sites, dont remember exactly but some modern versions you are free to copy a certain amount of verses, if one copys more you need permission etc. Myself think this is sad, even as i understand it from a human perspective still i think we as christians can be to "protective" of what is "mine".

But i am glad for KJV is fee to copy and print, and in many cases it is a better translation (my opinion) from better manuscripts
