Help!!

Hi guys
I joined a new church last year after years of being under a false doctrine. The saying of the children of darkness being more zealous couldn't have been truer for me. Anyhow i brought the zeal with me to my new church and to cut a long story short i have been asked to take control of youth ministry. It seems to be in some weird way while my new church was praying for a youth leader i was praying for a new church and i guess we were the answer for each others prayers. I am reluctant but yet i am willing to submit in obedience. The problem is that the task "seems" (yes i do have faith lol) almost insurmountable. The issue isnt with the youth its really the parents. The youth seem only following in the parents footsteps. Its a wonderful extremely loving church with a wonderful pastor only a hand few seem interested in bible study the vast majority seem to learn theology only on Sunday mornings.

Like i said im reluctant to do with anything regarding ministry while i am obedient.

My issue is i don't know how to address the root issues without rustling any feathers. There are many loyal elderly servants who have served for decades i do not wish to offend. But i cant do the work without addressing the roots of the problems.

The second issue is a reluctance to address issues of baptism of the holy spirit. Its almost as if its addressed it would offend too many people. Its like a common denominator has been sought and set as the standard as it causes least offense.

So my question is how do i address the major issues in a loving edifying manner. And what advise in general can you give me for building up Godly youth.

Start small, Show them Christ, Teach them about Christ in a real and practical way, Set a godly example, Get to know them, Be passionate.

Overall getting to know the people and earning their trust is going to be the major issue anyone new is under the microscope and trust is so very vital.

Paul Washer said the best way to reform a church is by finding out what they need, find a solution for that need, and continually help with that need until its no longer an issue then when you bring up the "big" ones they will see the stuff that you did in the past for them and will trust the new stuff that you are talking about.

I am in the same boat but I look at the example of Paul, He told the Galatians Am I now after the approval of man or of God? Ultimately teach, preach, and live in a way that God would approve of and the rest will fall into place.

I will warn you with this God's time table is generally slower than what we think it ought to be this will take time months even years the real question you have to ask yourself if Are you going to be that committed to the cause of the souls of that Church to ride out these preliminary things and take the time to build up trust with the people? I have been a youth pastor for three years now and I am still trying to get the hang of it :) Don't fret and don't worry if it's God's will and you are faithful to that then everything will work out. I will be praying for you though
