It strikes me that being not offended
springs from being able to see beyond the natural, to the spiritual
understanding that the sin of Adam messed up every human who is born
of whom we encounter some.
Therefore, James could write in 2:8
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
