what's your sign? (zodiac, horoscope)

Can you guide me and give me some bible direction about God's perspective on horoscopes and things. I don't know about this, the gemini, sagitarius, signs, and I saw a christian brother (I don't know him well at all) displaying his "sign" while witnessing of Jesus Christ at the same time. That doesn't seem right, I thought God was against horoscopes, but I don't know for sure. I was also recently told the signs go back to the 12 tribes, but it's only been twisted. Can you give me some direction so I can see what the bible says? I don't know what to look up. Dear God, please help me know your will about this. In Jesus' name, amen.

This was written in 1988.There seems to be no end to the disillusionment we are experiencing with both religious and political leaders. The latest, of course, comes from the revelations concerning the long-time involvement of the Reagans in astrology and the President's sad enslavement to lucky charms and other superstitions. While Mrs. Reagan reportedly "doesn't have a deep faith in God," the President claims to be a born-again Christian. Yet he has for years submitted to occult beliefs which made him the virtual prisoner of an astrologer, who literally confined the President to the White House on the many days it was "astrologically dangerous" for him to go out. It seems incredible that affairs of state at the highest level, including Soviet-American summit meetings, signing of disarmament treaties, etc., could be scheduled only when the zodiac allowed, thus seriously reducing the President's effectiveness. Yet that is the shocking revelation contained in For the Record, the account by former Secretary of the Treasury and White House Chief of Staff DonaldT. Regan of his years in Washington, D.C. Of course the President had admitted to some such follies more than twenty years ago, but most observers had assumed that, with his open confession of Christianity and bolder stand for biblical principles in recent years, his occultism had been abandoned. We were wrong. Instead, these superstitions, especially astrology, in what Regan calls "probably the most closely guarded domestic secret of the Reagan White House," have gained a stronger hold than evermuch stronger than any outsiders suspected. To understand the seriousness of the situation, not only for the First Family but for all Americans, we need to consider two factors: (1) that such practices are not confined to the Reagans, but are widespread throughout America; and (2) that God condemns these practices in the strongest terms, has severely judged Israel and many other nations for such abominations, and thus America is in grave danger of suffering similar punishment. First of all, it is the utmost hypocrisy for the media to criticize the Reagans for what is so widely accepted and practiced by the majority of Americans, including sports heroes, business and political leaders, educators, and media personalities themselves. As we mention in America: The Sorcerer's New Apprentice, this country is in the midst of the greatest occult revival in history. Hundreds of newspapers across America carry daily astrology columns, which are consulted by tens of millions of Americans. Carl Jung had great respect for astrology and used it in his analysis, as do many of today's psychologists and psychiatrists. Top athletes and coaches have certain hats, or socks, or numbers, or days of the week which they are convinced bring "good luck," and no amount of evidence can persuade them otherwise. The superstitious fears still prevailing in the space age dictate that the "unlucky" thirteenth floor of most high-rise hotels and office buildings simply does not exist. Even skeptic Carl Sagan, the pagan high priest of cosmos worship, though a critic of astrology, declares, "If we must worship a power greater than ourselves, does it not make sense to revere the Sun and stars?" Americans have fallen into numerous occult practices which attempt to utilize and control supernatural powers allegedly innate in the universe. Thus the creation is worshiped instead of the Creator (see Rom 1) and mankind is turned from the true God to substitute powers, i.e., to idols. This idolatry is the essence of the "New Age"which is simply a continuation under new names of the ancient "doctrines of devils" and accompanying occult practices that have always permeated all cultures. Israel was eventually destroyed by God's judgment because of her continual practice of idolatry in many forms, including astrology, sorcery, divination and other occultism, all of which the Bible repeatedly condemns yet which are rampant in the United States today. Consider this comparison showing the strength of this movement: while The Late Great Planet Earth sold an astonishing 25 million copies, during almost the same period of time two books on astrology by Linda Goodman sold 60 million. The Bible paints a clear picture of how great an abomination astrology isto God and yet how prevalent it remained among His chosen people in spite of repeated reproof. Jeremiah 19:13 and Zephaniah 1:5, for example, indicate that it was a common practice for the kings and the people to engage in occultic rituals in honor of "the host of heaven...and other gods" upon the roofs of their houses throughout Israel. In Acts 7:42, Stephen reminds the Jewish religious leaders, who were about to stone him, that their ancestors had never ceased to worship idols and "the host of heaven." (New Age occultism is also rampant throughout Israel today.) There are numerous pronouncements against astrology (almost always tying it in with idolatry, occultism, sorcery) in the Bible, such as Exodus 20:4; Deuteronomy 4:19; 17:3; 2 Kings 17:16; 21:3-5; 23:4-5; 2 Chronicles 33:3-5; Jeremiah 8:2. So evil are these abominations in God's eyes that anyone in Israel practicing astrology or any other form of idolatry/sorcery was to be put to death (Dt 17:2-7). It is bad enough when the president of the most powerful nation in the world, a nation which has put men on the moon and boasts of its science and wisdom, is enslaved by superstitious practices, including astrology, which, as we demonstrate in America, science has disproved long ago. It is far worse, however, when a president who has openly professed faith in Christ, has called for national prayer and spoken out for biblical standards of morality (and from whom America so desperately needs sound spiritual leadership) sinks to the level of secretly seeking help and protection from astrology and lucky charms! It calls into question not only his leadership qualifications but also the Christian faith he has publicly declared and in secret denied. We dare not view lightly what God has denounced and severely judged. Thousands of letters should go from Christians to the President, pointing out what the Bible has to say about astrology and lucky charms and other superstitious/occult practices that he has engaged in, and calling upon him to repent. Those Christian leaders who have access to Reagan must personally call upon him to repent. Their organization of and participation in prayer breakfasts, Washington for Jesus rallies and other similar events will be exposed as empty rhetoric if they do not now explain to the President his error and call upon him to make full, sincere and public confession, and to lead our nation to do likewise. What God had to say to Israel is no less apropos for America today: "O pleasure-mad kingdom, living at ease, bragging as the greatest in the worldlisten to the sentence of my court upon your sins...disaster shall overtake you suddenly....your astrologers and stargazers, who try to tell you what the future holds...are as useless as dried grass burning in the fire. They cannot even deliver themselves. You'll get no help from them at all!" (Is 47:8,11-14, Living Bible.) I doubt that any of us, including myself, have even begun to realize the full implications of the occult revival and apostasy that is engulfing our generation and today's church. May the Lord open our eyes, show us our sin, and enable us to live and proclaim His truth with convicting power so that many will be rescued before it is too late. And may His joy be your strength as you realize that in so doing you are hastening the day of His return.

Birth sign characteristics can lock one into some negative traits, that completely clash with Paul's teacing that any one in Christ is a new creature ...These are the passages from Enoch that made me completely discard anything having to do with astrology ...Baraqijel taught men astrology. Kokabiel taught the constellations,Araqiel the signs of the earth. Shamsiel the signs of the sun,and Sariel the signs of the moon. "Spiritual circumcision" is a good answer ...Well said.I didn't think Gemini and etc were godly either. 2 others I have talked to are defending it, but I haven't found it in Scripture yet in my bible study or in my bible dictionary. I'm still checking things out, learning is a neverending thing. Thank you for all the notes here, I appreciate it.

I recall being asked, while in my teens, what star sign I was born under. I replied 'it doesn't have any relevance for me, I have been born again, and I'm under the Son-sign.'

Hi,I know that I've heard of starsigns being used as an evangelism tool, similar to St Paul using the temple of the "unknown god", as a springboard for preaching the true gospel....but that's a far cry from there being an actual sigificance that prequels the occult imagery.

Maybe this applies.Was musing this morning and pardon if I am off here, dealing with a head cold...Caution.Warning.Danger!Keep Out!Condemnned!A progression of labels (Of which I usually am not very fond of) that perhaps need to be used in certain circumstances. I am aware of a brother who has a very thoughorough background in this area and after reading up on all this entails through his own testimony would not hesitate in slapping a Condemned! label on it.This is no area for Christians to be playing around in, nor equating anything to do with Gospel.

So the signs have nothing to do with the 12 tribes? Someone told me they were related. I guess they are mistaken (?) or misinformed. I'm glad to have that cleared up. Thank you Lord Jesus for helping me and guiding me into truth.

Here is a section from the Companion Bible it might be interesting to look into:"The Stars Also". This Is Appendix 12 From The Companion Bible. In the first mention of the heavenly bodies, the purpose of the Creator is clearly stated. Genesis 1:14-19 reveals the fact that they were created, not only "to divide the day from the night, and to give light upon the earth"; but, they were set "for SIGNS, and for SEASONS, and for days and years". The figure Polysyndeton (see Appendix 6) emphasises these four purposes, and bids us single them out and consider them separately and independtly. They are "for SIGNS". Hebrew 'oth, from 'athah, to come. Signs, therefore, of something or some One to come. Those who understand them are enlightened by them. Those who do not may well be "dismayed" (Jeremiah 10:2). The stars are numbered and named. There are twelve signs of the Zodiac, called "the stars" Genesis 37:9 (eleven of which bowed down to Joseph's, the twelfth). The word Zodiac means the degrees or steps, which mark the stages of the sun's path through the heavens, corresponding with the twelve months. The stars were all named by God (Psalm 147:4). Most of these names have been lost; but over 100 are preserved through the Arabic and Hebrew, and are used by astronomers to-day, though their meaning is unknown to them. Many of them are used in Scripture as being well known, though the translations are somewhat speculative: for example Job 9:9. Hebrew 'ash (Arcturus, Revised Version the Bear), kesil (Authorized Version Orion), kimah (Pleiades). Job 38:31, 32, mazzaroth (margin, and Revised Version, the twelve signs; margin, the signs of the Zodiac). Compare 2 Kings 23:5, 'ash (Arcturus with her sons, Revised Version the Bear with her train, both versions being incorrect as to the names). See also Isaiah 13:10. Amos 5:8. These names and the twelve "signs" go back to the foundation of the world. Jewish tradition, preserved by Josephus, assures us that this Bible astronomy was invented by Adam, Seth and Enoch. We see evidence of it as early as Genesis 11:4, where we read of the Tower of Babel having "his top with the heavens". There is nothing about the wrongly supplied italics "may reach unto". The words, doubtless, refer to the signs of the Zodiac, pictured at the top of the Tower, like the Zodiacs in the Temples of Denderah, and Esneh in Egypt. The Babylonian "Creation Tablets" refer to them, though their primitve meaning had been either corrupted or lost. It is the same with the Greek mythology, which is a corruption of primitive truth which had been lost and perverted. We have to remember that our written Scriptures began with Moses, say in 1490 B.C.: and thus, for more than 2,500 years, the revelation of the hope which God gave in Genesis 3:15 was preserved in the naming of the stars and their grouping in Signs and Constellations. These groupings are quite arbitrary. There is nothing in the positions of the stars to suggest the pictures originally drawn around them. The Signs and Constellations were first designed and named; then, the pictures were drawn around them respectively. Thus the truth was enshrined and written in the heavens, where no human hand could touch it. In later years, when Israel came into the possession of the written "Scriptures of truth", there was no longer any need for the more ancient writing in the heavens. Hence, the original teaching gradually faded away and the heathen, out of the smattering they had heard by tradition, evolved their cosmogonies and mythologies. Psalm 19 contains a vivid reference to these two Books of revelation. That is why there is the very sudden change of subject at verse 7; a change which still perplexes and baffles all the skill of commentators. The teaching is preserved in the structure of the Psalm, where we have A | 1 - 4 -. The Heavens. B | - 4 - 6. "In them, the sun". A | 7 - 10. The Scriptures. B | 11 - 14. "In them 1, Thy servant". In this structure every line emphasises the elaboration of the design: for, while, in the first half, all the terms are literary, in the latter half they are all astronomical, thus welding the two portions of the Psalm into one harmonious whole. For the meaning of the words, reference must be made to the Psalm itself. We can only note here that the first part does not refer to the wonders of creation, but to the eloquence of its teaching and revelation: they "declare", tell, or narrate (Genesis 24:66. Psalm 71:15), they "utter speech", but without words (omit "where" in verse 3); Hebrew = they "show forth", exhibit (Genesis 3:11. Psalm 97:6; 111:6); they prophesy "day by day", "night by night". The question is: What do they prophesy? What knowledge do they show forth? What glory do they tell of? The answer is - Genesis 3:15. The one great central truth of all prophecy - the coming One, Who, though He should suffer, should in the end crush the head of the old serpent, the Devil. But, where are we to open this book? Where are we to break into this circle of the Zodiacal signs? Through the "precession of the Equinoxes" the sun gradually shifts its position a little each year, till in about every 2,000 years it begins the year in a different sign. This was foreseen; and it was also foreseen that succeeding generations would not know when and where the sun began its course, and where the teaching of this Heavenly Book commenced, and where we were to open its first page. Hence the "Sphinx" was invented as a memorial. It had the head of a woman and the body and tail of a lion, to tell us that this Book, written in the Heavens, began with the sign "Virgo", and will end with the sign "Leo". The word "sphinx" is from the Greek sphingo, to join; because it binds together the two ends of this circle of the heavens. The number of the Signs is twelve, the number of governmental perfection or "rule": compare Genesis 1:18 (Appendix 10). They are divided into three books of four chapters (or signs) each: twelve being the product of 3 x 4. that is to say, of Divine truth working in the heavens and in the earth (see Appendix 10). Each book, therefore, consists of four signs; and these are all arranged, by structure, in exactly the same way. Each is an introversion. Thus we have the three books: First Book. The Redeemer.(His first coming). A | VIRGO. The prophecy of the promised seed. B | LIBRA. The Redeemer's work (grace). B | SCORPIO. The Redeemer's conflict. A | SAGITTARIUS. The prophecy fulfilled. The southern fish. Arabic Fom al haut = the mouth of the fish. Zodiac of Denderah = Aar, a stream. PEGASUS. The winged horse. Zodiac of Denderah Pe and ka = Peka, or pega. Hebrew pehah = the chief, and sus, a horse; name thus come down. The brightest is Markab, Hebrew merhak = returning from afar. CYGNUS. In the Zodiac of Denderah, Tes-ark = this from afar. A mighty bird, not falling dead like Aquila. Brightest star Deneb = the Judge; called also Adige = flying swiftly. The second, Al Bireo = flying quickly. Two others: Azel = who goes and returns quickly, and Fafage = gloriously shining forth. PISCES. Egyptian name in the Zodiac or Denerah = Pi-cot Orion or Pisces Hori = the fishes (that is to say, swarms or multitudes) of Him Who cometh. Hebrew Dagim, the fishes (Genesis 48:16). Isaiah 60:4 - 9.) LEO. The Lion. Messiah's consummated triumph. In the Zodiac of Denderah it is Pi Mentikeon = the pouring out (of Divine wrath). The three constellations crystallize the truth. 1. Hydra = the old serpent destroyed. 2. Crater = the cup of wrath poured out on him. 3. Corvus = the bird of prey devouring him. The Denderah picture exhibits all four in one. The Syriac name is Aryo = the rending lion. Arabic Al Asad = the lion leaping forth as a flame. The brightest star is Regulus = treading under foot (as pictured). Another is Al Drian = the abhorred. Another is Minchar al Sugia = the piercing of the deceiver. CRATER. The Cup [of wrath poured out] (Psalm 75:8; 11:6. Revelation 14:10; 16:19.) The constellation has thirteen stars, (compare appendix 10). CORVUS. The Raven. The birds of prey devouring. The name in the Zodiac of Denderah, Her-na = the enemy breaking up. There are nine stars (see Appendix 10). The brightest star is Chiba (Numbers 23:8) = accursed. Another is Minchar al Gorab = the raven tearing to pieces. Thus end the Scriptures of the Heavens. This is the story they tell forth. This is the "speech" they "utter". This is the "knowledge" they "shew forth". There is no articulate speech or voice; and no words are heard; but their sayings have gone out into all the world (Psalm 19:1 - 6). They are "for SEASONS". Not only are the stars made for signs ('othoth, from the root 'athah = to come), but for Seasons. These are not the four seasons of the year, but Cycles of time. The figure Polysyndeton (see Appendix 6) in Genesis 1:14 emphasises this: "and for seasons, and for days, and years". The word means appointed times. (Compare Genesis 17:21; 18:14; 21:2.) Thus the sun, moon, and stars are for "signs" (things to come), and for "seasons" (appointed times). There are no less than ten of these cycles, all of them different; not concentric, but yet all of them coinciding at creation, but never since: like number of hoops of different sizes hanging from a nail. This shows that they must have had a given simultaneous start. The cycle of 24 hours for the day, an evening and morning. The revolution of the Moon round the earth. The lunar cycle, which began at the same moment as the solar cycle. The daily revolution of the Sun, which places him on the meridian at noon each day. The Solar Cycle, coinciding with the first of the seven years of lunar motion and repeating itself every 365 days. The beginning of a Week of seven days on the first day of the week, of the first month of the first year of the first solar cycle. The first Eclipse of a cycle of eighteen years and eleven days, to which the ancient astronomers gave the name of Saros; each Saros containing an average of seventy eclipses, divided into two portions of 594 years and 666 years, making together 1,260 years. Beside these, there is the period of the Heliacal risings of Sirius, in a cycle of 162 years. The Transits of Venus, And the grand cycle known as the Precession of the Equinoxes. All these combine and unite in showing that the chronology of Archbishop Usher was substantially correct. And this proves that the inflated chronology of modern historians and theologians is entirely unscientific, being the hypothesis of men who dabbled in things outside their own sphere, and of which they were incompetent to form a correct judgment. The re-interpretation of the signs of the Zodiac by Mr. Bullinger is one of the very unwise and deceptive attempts of learned men to reconcile every part of reality. Man’s twisted mind looking for hidden codes and messages, even hidden powers to be used to subdue and control the universe and its mysteries bring him to draw improper conclusions regarding what he sees both in what is small and insignificant and in what is greater as to volume and importance.To allow for the use of these twisted views to explain the Gospel is to invite false reality to accompany truth; an operation which never will serve either man or God.There is no reconciliation to be found between God’s reality and the Babylonian mysteries with their links to the folly of fantasy displayed in astrology.There is no reconciliation to be found in various efforts to explain occult pretence and posturing in terms of the Gospel. God’s creation does allow for occult interpretations but Christian re-interpretations of this perverted world view do not cause anything but confusion.Man tends to be drawn to the mysterious. He was an extraordinary scholar who synthesises information from all quarters. The E is for Ethelbert. I mention this because any family who would name their son Ethelbert is, by definition, eccentric. Ethelbert King of Kent; b. 552; d. 24 February, 616. There was also later king with the same name.Ethelbert was king of England from 860 to 866. However, Ethelbert W Bullinger's life at school must have been a nightmare! Ethelbert William Bullinger was born on December 15 in Canterbury, England. He was a direct descendent of Johann Heinrich Bullinger, a theologian who succeeded Zwingli in Zurich in December of 1531. Educated at King's College, London, he was a recognized scholar in the field of biblical languages. The Archbishop of Canterbury granted him an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in 1881 in recognition of his biblical scholarship.E.W. Bullinger was noted broadly for three works: A Critical Lexicon and Concordance to the English and Greek New Testament (1877); for his ground-breaking and exhaustive work on Figures of Speech Used in the Bible (1898); and as the primary editor of The Companion Bible (published in 6 parts, beginning in 1909; the entire annotated Bible was published posthumously in 1922). All three of these works, along with numerous of his books and pamphlets, remain in print (2003).He was hyper-dispensational, seeing specific church dispensations in Acts and the Pastoral letters. He believed that the Petrine Church failed and was replaced by the Pauline Church which also failed. His teaching was similar to J N Darby who taught that the church was now 'ruined' and under emergency orders. Bullinger's knowledge of scripture and language was amazing but if there is an off-beat way of understanding something, Bullinger will always go for it. He believed (and could prove) that there were 5 crosses on Calvary. His work of the gospel of the stars was typical of the appendices to his Companion Bible.

Quite an interesting read but not that valid in many ways, more of a non-essential I would say. As for the appendix on the 'stars' I just posted is interesting food for thought but there is not alot of truth with all the reconcilings he tries to draw from scripture. There is alot of good things to be gleamed from this man and his works. Thanks brother Ron for the insightful look into this mans life and doings.
