No pontiff has visited since Henry VIII severed ties with the Catholic Church, and things are not entirely resolved as the Pope is to land in Scotland, not England.
It’s taken five hundred years, but later this afternoon the Pope will arrive in the UK.
The last visit by a pontiff was before Henry VIII and this visit comes after months of preparation.
