DAILY LIGHT - OCTOBER 3 MORNING

sermonindex Oct 3, 2010

Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it. Love is strong as death. - Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. - In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.

Ye are washed, ... ye are sanctified, ... ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. - Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. - I beseech you ... brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.--Rev. 1:5

The great cause of all our blessings is the love of God. It was a love shown to the unworthy and unclean. What is it that the blood of Christ accomplishes in behalf of every believing soul? First, there is its efficacy Godward. It atones for the guilt of sin. It answers every claim of that righteous law which our transgressions had dishonored and assailed. It removes condemnation that that law pronounces over every soul that fails either in omission or comission, as touching the law. The blood atones for the sinner, and places him not only in a position of freedom from guilt, but of actual acceptance (Rom. 5:9). Then there is the efficacy of the blood manward. It washes us from the sins of defilement. It sets us free from its tyranny. "Unto him that loveth us, and loosed us from our sin by his blood" (ASV). The blood of Christ emancipates us from the bondage and service of sin. If we would know this freedom we must claim by faith that which is already ours by God's gift in Christ.
