DAILY LIGHT - OCTOBER 4 MORNING

Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory. - Lord, when saw we thee a hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? - In lowliness of mind, let each esteem other better than themselves. - Be clothed with humility.

[Jesus] was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. - All that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on Stephen, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel. - The glory which thou gavest me, I have given them. - We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Moses was priveledged to go up into the mount and hold intercourse with Jehovah for fourty days. What a wonderful conference that must have been! And as God talked with him, the glory of God transfigured the countenance of Moses. But Moses was not occupied with his own shining. He "wist not that the skin of his face shone." He was occupied with "the beauty of holiness" that he beheld in Jehovah Himself. All this typified what the Gospel brings us into today. (See 2 Cor. 3:18) It is of the first importance that there should be, besides nearness, nothing between the soul and God. How many things there are in our daily life that often do come between! It is not sin only that obstructs the intercourse. It may be care or anxiety. It may be our business, or even the work of the Lord itself. Or we may let some form of Christian experience, which we are seeking to realize, come between our souls and God. Whatever it is it must go, so that there may be NOTHING BETWEEN our soul and the glory of God.
