History in the Making: The third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization in Cape Town

iansmith Oct 13, 2010

In four days (16-25 October) four thousand of evangelical leaders from two hundred nations will meet in Cape Town South Africa to discuss the course of the Church of Christ for this generation and seek the Lord's guidance on the most pressing issues facing His Church. This may in fact be the most important meeting of Christians in the twenty-first century, and as the body of Christ we need to be praying for revival and renewal as a result of this congress!

Christianity Today is already calling this congress "The Most Diverse Gathering Ever"* and many are waiting in anticipation to see God move in a major way through this congress as he did at Lausanne in 1974 (from which missions began to focus on unreached people groups) and Manila in 1989 (at which an emphasis was put on reaching the 10/40 window). The Lausanne movement has done much to shape modern missions and evangelicalism around the world--so please keep this congress in your prayers!

If you are not familiar with the Lausanne movement, this would be a good time to join in what the Lord has been doing by reading the Lausanne Covenant and the Manila Manifesto and joining the church in prayer for a visitation from the Almighty!

Jimp,

Thank you for that story of Mr. Ravenhill. He may not have been present at Lausanne, but knowing that he was invited shows that he was held in great regard by those at the congress--and it is likely that Ravenhill bathed the congress and its participants in prayer.

These conference used to be very significant in the past. Does anyone know what was going on there and what the general trend was ?
