Chilean Miners Rescue

Anybody watching this rescue? I am seeing it on www.cnn.comLive

I can hardly pull myself away from my computer screen...I am enjoying this newscast so much...it stands in contrast to what usually passes for news that this is such a relief. The joy, the pleasure of the rescuers as that capsule emerges from that shaft is infectious to this lady even though I know not a soul.

I am impressed how credit is given to God for the success of this rescue. While much of the world has rejected the role God plays in life, this event stands is stark contrast to the prevailing hedonism that contaminates much of moderns. Just hope and pray that greed will not impair these miners philosophy of life but that they will continue to worship God and grow in their walk and knowledge of Him.

Yes, my wife and I have been following it. We were up late -- and in tears -- watching the first miner being rescued live on the internet.

I saw something this morning where one of the miners said, "I was in a place with God and the devil, but I chose to reach out to God."

I guess we are always in a similar place...but maybe when you are trapped in a mine (or any pit) you become more earnest towards reality.

I believe the rescue is truly a sign from God. Many of those rescued gave glory to God. "edit" "Chile" saw great moves of God and I believe many must have prayed. After the devastation of the earthquake I felt that God lifted up the whole Nation of "edit" "Chile" as the world held their breath.

Even the otherwise antichristian BBC broadcasted the testimonials.

There will be thousands of sermons preached next Sunday about the rescue of the miners. You can easily build an evangelistic message about that. May God use it to His glory and to save souls.

My prayer is that some of those who had been rescued from the belly of the earth will go out and preach like Jona.

Yes. Praise the Lord for the testimony to come, and that has already begun!

When that capsule emerged from that shaft with the last paramedic, I cheered! My husband thought they must have heard it because they did too!

It was inspiring to read the comments people made in response to this rescue, many of whom gave God the honor and glory. Then there are those spoilsports who will say it was all because of human effort! SIGH!

Anyhow, it was a blessing to watch this and now I can get some other work done! Got to hurry up and do it because I will likely be glued to the screen again next week when the Revival conference convenes....

You weren't the only one.

After viewing this and seeing the joy, the pleasure that accompanied each person that came up from that mine, I could not help but compare it to what passes for news on a daily basis: power - its misuse, abuse and how folks work to dominate the weaker. In the Chilean miner case people used their God given knowledge to help. There was cooperation....did you notice on the profiles of each miner how everyone seemed to have been designated a certain task that worked for the well-being of their survival? I was impressed - reminded me of how the church should function! Powerful lesson, here.

I like what one of the miners said to the TV newsperson. She mentioned something about how the 33 felt being rescued....and the miner reacted, 'No, there was 34. God was there with us.

I was wondering how much this rescue cost. According to one source it said $1,000,000 per miner! And I thought, wow! that is expensive....wonder who is paying for it?

Then I got to thinking of the spiritual lessons this teaches us: what value does one place upon the redemption of a person? When Jesus healed the man of demons, they went into a herd of hogs, causing them to run over the cliff. Scripture does not tell us how hogs were in that herd, but in any case, this inflicted a great loss on its owner. Here you have a person healed and in his right mind vs a herd of hogs lying at the bottom of the cliff, dead. Which is the better? Was losing a herd of hogs worth it if a man gets healed and cleansed?

Thirty million dollars is a lot of money to spend to rescue 33 persons. But if one person somewhere comes to the LORD through this ordeal, was the cost worth it?

What I see here is how God loves to 'waste' physical money/resources to facilitate redemption. This entire principle seems to say that money means nothing, is nothing to God; the individual is worth everything.

This concept amazes me over and over again...glad God's economy is superior to mine.
