Swing Ride

"Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ."
1 Corinthians 11:1

On the playground we used to say two swingers on the set "were married" if they were in sync as they swung back and forth. If you wanted to sync up with someone you would pump your legs when they pumped theirs. In this world we learn to sync up with Jesus. We start out pumping our legs in opposition to him and we only see him pass by in a blur. But as we imitate him we draw closer to him as we sync up our motions. Finally we are in complete alignment with him, the wind blowing in our faces, side by side, talking, learning, loving, until the swing ride is over and we clasp hands and jump off into eternity together.

On the road someone asked if he could go along. "I'll go with you, wherever," he said. Jesus was curt: "Are you ready to rough it? We're not staying in the best inns, you know." (The Message Translation Luke 9:58)

It is better to sleep on the ground with Jesus then in the Hilton without him.

Thank you for this beautiful picture. I have thought of this verse often recently. Copy Christ. What a high standard, but we would not be called to it if we were not capable of it. Thank you for your thought.

The Holy Spirit teaches how to walk like him in this world. The swing ride is like the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. Making us Holy like the Perfect Son of God.
