Romans 5:6-8, Jesus died for the ungodly... how?

I have a few questions surrounding this passage of scripture.

1. How does God love His enemies on the earth today?
2. How does God love us when we keep failing and/or sinning?
3. How are we to demonstrate our love to our enemies as the Father loved us first?

6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

I'd like to share my understanding of your question 2:

God has declared his creation "good" and He has created us in His image, with all the potential to be what He desires us to be. Because we have inherited sin and because we are in this fallen world, that image gets distorted and mutilated to the point where you can barely make out the original design. However, God never loses sight of that man or woman He has created, and one day (in glory)He will restore that person to the perfection that He has intended for her or him (which is possible through Jesus' sacrifice).
And that's how He loves us when we keep failling or sinning, He knows the beginning and the end and He can see us as we ought to be, even as pre-christians.
