It is finished!

sermonindex Nov 16, 2010

The Eternal Purpose of God is that He would live in the midst of His people and share His life with them.

The Gospel is the announcement that He has accomplished His Eternal Purpose,

and

The Christian Life is the ever-unfolding experience of the reality of His Purpose

sermonindex Nov 16, 2010

This is true but I spent many years attempting to get what God had already given me and done for me.

Think of the wasted energy and effort spent in attempting to make ourselves better or right.

IT IS FINISHED!!!

The Christian Life is the ever-unfolding experience of the reality of His Purpose.

We all need to see and understand this fact more clearly and rest in it.

He has FINISHED providing all things that we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us out of His own glory and goodness.

Through these great and precious promises (all from His own finished work) we can partake of His divine nature and escape the corruption that is in the world through lusts.

When we properly understand what He has FINISHED -

We will GIVE ALL DILIGENCE to add to our faith: Virtue, Knowledge, Self Control, Perserverance, Godliness, Brotherly Kindness and Love.

Our REST should look like GIVING ALL DILIGENCE similar to Paul's own rest. Paul was so confident that Christ was able to keep Him from falling and to present him without spot or wrinkle that he beat his body and made it his slave lest after having preached REST to others he himself would be rejected.

We are admonished to GIVE ALL DILIGENCE to enter this rest, lest any should fall by following the example of those who failed to enter because of unbelief and disobedience.

Don't mean to be nit-picky but it was Peter who said to give all diligence. I am sure we have all had many Paulian slips, I have been guilty of the same many times :)

With love and a smile!

Thanks for the help.

Please note the word "similar". Paul's own rest was "similar". The comparison is intentional because Paul's own personal life leaves us an example to underscores the heart of Peter's admonition to GIVE ALL DILIGENCE.

Thanks again for allowing me to underscore it once more.

We can only enter into HIS rest by giving all diligence.

"Let us therefore be DILIGENT to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience."
