What helped you?

Just doing it until it becomes second nature, I guess.

I found witnessing/sharing the gospel helps when you are in a team. My husband and I are in a team called 'Breakout' (of the 4 walls of the church) and we go out talking to people on the street every fortnight for a couple of hours. I take photos of the people we talk to if they consent, and ask the team to send in their stories of the night and what worked/didnt work, what they felt the Holy Spirit said to them, if they prayed with someone, people's beliefs, responses etc and we always do it in a loving natural way, just a discussion with them if they want to talk about God. We use a tract as a tool to approach them. Then myself or another team member put these stories together in the form of a newsletter and post it out to everyone including the pastor to keep us accountable. This model really works and has helped us become more confident and equipped at what we're doing. Its also a great venue for anyone who wants to join us and begin to step out and grow in courage. Hope this helps.
