DAILY LIGHT - DECEMBER 25 MORNING

sermonindex Dec 25, 2010

The kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared.

I have loved thee with an everlasting love.

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

When the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.

Great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh. As the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

The kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared.--Titus 3:4

It is to the "kindness and love of God," and not to any merits of our own, that we owe our salvation. "We neither did works of righteousness, nor were saved in consequence of them: but His goodness did the whole" (Theophylact). Every blessing is traced up to our Saviour God. The Gospel is a revelation of the kindness and the love of God. It is a manifestation of His grace in the glory of His righteousness. Justice and truth are seen in perfect harmony with mercy and peace. The salvation of the sinner is accomplished by the same act that magnifies every attribute of the divine character. The believer is priveledged to behold, as he advances in the knowledge of salvation, how his own spiritual well-being and the glory of God are interwoven.

"The distinction between 'goodness' and 'friendliness towards men' is, that the former expression the Divine benevolence in general, the latter more specifically His compassion for mankind; so that both, taken together, are identical with grace"(Lange).

"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men" (Titus 2:11).
