DAILY LIGHT - DECEMBER 27 MORNING

We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Here have we no continuing city. — Ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations. — There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.

We that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened. — God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. — Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

We look not to things which are seen. . .for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.--2 Cor. 4:18

We see from the context that the main thought of the passage is spiritual transformation of our character. The outward man perishing--the inward man daily being renewed. This should go on continually. But it is conditional. It is "while we are looking at things which are not seen"; in other words, it is while we continue to see Him who is invisible. The believer lives in two worlds at once.

There is the outward world of sense. Of course he is not unconscious of the things that are seen. And there is the invisible world of faith. The unseen is as real as the seen--nay, because the things which are seen are temporal, and the things which are not seen are eternal--it is the unseen world that is the true and the real--the visible is but the shadow. As we live surrounded by the things that are seen, let us not look AT them, but THROUGH them.
