What is true christian unity and not the ecumenical movement

John 17:22 NKJ
And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:

To me it grieves my soul, The ecumenical movement trying to unite Catholics and such like, my problem is if that is the false what is the true unity!

What is unity in Christ and not in the ecumenical movement,one thing I have to complement the Sermonindex conferences of, is there is a real spirit of unity there!

What is true unity and how does it differentiate from ecumenical unity? What are the aspects of true unity?

"Ecumenical" unity is a fruit of human effort. Godly unity is one of the first fruits of the Holy Spirit:-

Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

When Christians are "in sync" with God they are automatically in sync with each other.

Seems to me that too many times we associate unity as being one organizationally. But from my observation this is not true although it can happen there.

I have observed that I can be a member of a church without sensing any unity in my spirit with someone else in this brotherhood.

I have also experienced a oneness with people who are not a part of our brotherhood, or denomination.

Unity happens when two people experience a oneness in spirit in pertaining to matters of God, life which explains what happens a lot on this forum.

This is my understanding...I realize that what I said is experiential and not drawn from Scripture - just what happens when there are two people who love the LORD.

Your understanding is in fact drawn from scripture, ginnyrose. Scripture nowhere recognises such a thing as being a "member of a local church". But instead:

'Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ?' 1 Cor 6:15 (KJV)

'For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.' 1 Cor 12:12 (KJV)

'Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular' 1 Cor 12:27 (KJV)

So we have fellowship by the Holy Spirit with all the members of the one body of Christ. "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body," 1 Cor 12:13 (KJV)
