I ask the LORD to teach me to recognize his voice when he speaks to me. It is a process, a learning one. He starts with what seems to be the most insignificant things in life. These things, situations, enhance ones love and worship of the LORD. It begins with the little things, everyday things: should I do it this way? or, should I buy this or not? Any questions that come your way - ask Him!. See what happens.
This has been my experience and what I do. It is always a learning experience - I do not think I will ever get to the position where I can relax and do nothing because the Devil is working hard to destroy this relationship.

What do you do personally to go deeper with Christ?
1.Personally i read the bible (for instruction in righteousness and theology)
2.Pray in the Holy Ghost (been slacking admittedly)
3.Examine how i love (too often we love as men love which is based on condition and performance)
Sure we can pray driving down the road or while working or even while on the computer but that can only take us so far and then when we find it doesn't work as well as it used to; and we find that we have to pull out all the stops and genuinely SET ASIDE TIME for seeking our Lord.
Yes, I'm speaking from experience! And while setting aside this time for specially seeking the Lord, I have deleted my fb account; it sucks the time out of my life or the life out of my time… I don’t know which!
Fasting helps me to focus on why I'm giving up what I'm giving up and keep my eyes on Christ.

Looking back, there are three things and one which has developed.What do you do personally to go deeper with Christ?
1) Worship Him. Enter His presence in praise and thanksgiving. This gives a bit of perspective on what to pray.
2) Give my whole life to Him (time without number) and pray about anthing specific which comes back from Him at that time.
3) Ask Him to keep me moving on.
4) Consider what was happening on the cross in light of eternity, and, that it was the Word of God made flesh, who died. What an example of the Son obeying the Father, and yet being completely in possession of His own decision.
John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. (KJV)
Luke 9:23 And he said unto all, `If any one doth will to come after me, let him disown himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me; (YLT)
And this verse also helps with overall perspective, when the going is tough.
Matthew 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day [is] the evil thereof.

Give us all a precious hunger and thirst for You Lord and a hunger to spend time with You and help us all to get it and keep it. Protect it Lord. All glory to You - our Love.

I desire God to have all of me. I know he does not, and I know He never will until this life is over. It is easy to give answers like, "I get into the Word.", or "I pray a lot.", or "I worship a lot." Every one of these things moves us toward this end. But I think the real key has been to live a lifestyle of repentance and surrender. God will continually come to me with some little thing that He desires to have. He wants all of me. These things are often unexpected things that I have not seen in myself but on which He desires to cast His light and deal with. I have found that the most productive thing I can do is to surrender and repent and allow God to change whatever it is. The reward for this is what we call "going deeper" for it positions us for more of His glory to be manifest in us.
No matter how hard we try, we cannot improve on the old man, even if he desires to follow Jesus - in his own way. Oh for a while it will seem as if he is improving, but so long as the `sin factory` is still in operation, we will not get very far. The sins we manage to get on top of will just become different sins with the worst one developing as spiritual pride that we are not as bad as the other man. All deadness and lack of living fellowship with God is because the sin factory is active and has not been destroyed. Once it is then we will be in perfect peace and singing to God the day long, lost in wonder love and praise and will not need to set time to pray as we will be praying without ceasing and have that assurance that He is well pleased with us. Roamns 6 and 7 is where we find the answer. It is through reckoning that the old man is dead and then stepping out in faith on that. Simple but complete dedication to Christ is a step more than more are willing to take. Thank God that many on here sound like they are willing.
I have found over the years that having the mind of Christ means not having the mind of men. Which means, I am very picky on what I read. The more books we read and the wrong sermons we hear means more clutter and difficulty for the Spirit of God to speak truth to us because of all these other voice screaming for attention that we have taken in through books that were never inspired by Him.
THANK YOU ALL! I really appreciate all the responses that were given, I hope this keeps going because I found what helps others generally will be helpful to me.
What I have done over the years is keep checks on myself trying to keep Christ in mind always I will ask myself question to survey where I am and the value of an activity... questions like: "Does this bring me closer to Christ?" or "In light of Eternity does this really matter or have any true value to me?"
At times I will read the Word and find my heart and mind in completely different places and then ask the Lord to keep my focus on Him and start to reread what I just read because I know I wasn't paying attention to what I was reading so I will ask myself question about what I'm reading to be certain I understand what's going on in the text, so far this has helped me greatly.
Also Christian fellowship has been a great aid to me, such as threads like these. Or going to a bible study and just hearing others thoughts on different verses and how they see things brings different light or a different angle I may have never seen before.
I think this is a wonderful question and discussion.
As for me:
1. Flee (1Tim6:11/12, 2Tim2:22): I found that more I flee from sin/world/temptations, the more I get close to God.
2. Follow (1Tim6:11/12, 1Pet2:21, Phil3:12): The more I fellowship with godly people, the more I am challenged to live for God. I think we are protected when we are in fellowship with godly people.
3. Fight (1Tim6:11/12, 1Cori9:26): I am more and more realizing that if I dont fight and if I dont have a radical attitude towards sin/devil/world, then I can never get close to God. Christian Life is a battle and the Lord equips us to fight the good fight of faith. Ephesians 6 says that we need to put on the whole armor of God.
Of course: Prayer, the Word of God are as important as breathing to be devoted to the Lord.
Being Sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Yielding to the Holy Spirit.
Also Humility is the key.
Reading this thread has been such a help and I also enjoy the fact that we haven't had someone say they have the one and only way to go deeper with Christ but we have seen a variety of answers from a variety of Saints from different varieties of Life. I thank the Lord for His wonderful work that allows variety.
hi, an explaination of my short post in resting in Jesus.20 years ago we were in sunday school(having real revival)and the teacher brought his oldest son who was building houses with his father and saying how hard it was to totally please his father...he left and the teachers youngest son was brought in and ran up to his dad and reached up and fell limp on his dads neck showing total trust in his dad... what a great and unforgettable lesson.jimp

How do you apply what you learn from the Word of God to your life?
This is probably my weakest thing, I am still learning the application of scriptures so any input is greatly appreciated for this ignorant little brother. :) I know and understand that the Pharisees also had a rough time applying scripture properly so How do you do it? What have you found works best for you? Is there any danger with application?
