"What Is Man's real problem" ???

S
sonofthunder Feb 27, 2011

We are currently living in a time when people are being told the way to get help, solve problems, get answers, find solutions, and overcome emotional hang-ups is by enrolling in some "self help" class or by employing "life coaches" or by enlisting the help of "life statergists" failing that they encourage us to attend some "personal development" seminar. (unquote)

All good and well: Strictly speaking from the point of pragmatic and postmodern thinking ...with its practical approach to solving life's issues and problems.

Only one problem though? it often excludes God and the Word of God as being the pragmatic solution - to mankind's ills.

Mmmm.

And whilst life coaches and other well meaning stategists may offer assistance and practical advice to life's problems. In the long run and the long haul...this doesnt solve the problem of fallen creatures - given to Sin!

............................................................

Indeed Mankind's real problem: dare i say it - Is Sin !!

This in spite of what well meaning experts tell us - instructing people to seek out counselors or enroll in some "self help" course and then hey presto you will be a changed person for the rest of your life! well So they say! and tell us!

To declare that Sin is the real reason for societies woes - well its just plain not popular and is actually thought to be an unsatisfactory answer. Especially to a "postmodern culture" where "everthing has to be relative" depending on your own point of view - and how you personally see things.

But friends when push comes to shove we dare not deviate or waver one iota from proclaiming that "Christ Jesus came into the world to save Sinners"

And the chief cause behind wrong, behind error, and evil is Sin! and the chief cause behind societies ills...is iniquity! And our tresspassing and transgressing of God's laws - is where we go wrong ...reaping what we sow!

But As bible believing fundamental evangelical christians we must positively affirm that the chief cause of mans ills and problems is - "Sin" yes Sin in all its nakedness, deformity, and inglorious ways...

In all of its treachery and treason...

"For all have sinned - and fallen short of God's glory"

But we are living in a time when culture and postmodern thinking has "other names" for sin. For example people say this person doesnt have a problem with lying, instead he is given to exeggerating and distorting the truth! or this person and doesnt have a problem with booze (drunkeness ) instead he has an addictive personality! or that person does not have a problem with tempation to sin ...he has an impulse control disorder. And troubled teens are not promiscuous - they suffer from neglected childhoods.

But We candy coat and sugar coat the underlying real reason ... but that reason - still stands as being - the reason of Sin! But there again it is not popular to mention the "S" word as the root cause of bad behaviour. Mmmm.

However, having said all this I certainly do not negate or dispute outside or internal factors as contributing factors! but when its all said and done and after all the post mortems are carried out - as to why people go astray or behave badly. The Bible still puts it down to one thing??

We are fallen creatures ....with ...fallen natures.

With a Sin problem.

That's the bottom line!!

Contrary to what the analysts or experts tell us.

And As far as im concerned they can analyse and dissect human behaviour all they want.

But when push comes to shove the bible still declares "all we like sheep have gone astray" and "there is none righteous no - not one"

The fact is: We are all sinners in need of a saviour and no permanent change can come about in human behaviour, until a man is born again of the spirit of God! or until he becomes a new creation - in Christ Jesus.

And All of the "self-help" and "how to" books (as good and helpful as some of them it might be)however none of these will effect "permanent change" or change that lasts in human behaviour!

The only way mankind can be reformed and changed permanently - is by the putting on - of Christ

Effectively this is the only thing that works...

And it works because God goes after the root of the problem: And that root is "Sin" ...and that root is a heart in need of change! in need of a remedy!

Indeed God cleans up a man: from the inside/out.

This effects permanent and lasting change because man's fallen condition is addressed at it's core problem! And IT ALL BEGINS WITH THE HEART!!!

The truth is man can never be good enough or effect permanent change -that meets or measures up to God's standard.

This is why he (God) sent his Son Jesus to die in our place and enabling us thereby to take on the righteousnes of God (In christ Jesus) because man (in and of himself) will never be good enough to be accepted - By God.

The truth is: there is not a scrap, or ounce, or lick of Goodness in any of us ...according to the scriptures.

The bible says: all your righteousness is as filthy rags...

The bible declares we are all as an "unclean thing"

This is the whole truth of the matter that Christ Jesus needed to come into the world - to die for sinners! of which - is all of us (period/full stop)

No amount of vows to be good or effect change through the power of human will - will work or last!

As The good that we do - we allow not! (and)

And The evil we would not - that do we.

This is what the bible says is "the law of sin and death"

Working in our members to produce ...death

Furthermore another big reality check: is This: "the human heart at the best of times is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked" (desperately wicked)

Therefore How can self help classes and pop psycology cure the innate sin problem - and problem of fallen nature?

I ask you??

The bible has already declared that our hearts are bent on Sin ...bent on doing wrong...and crooked beyond measure.

O' wretched men: that we are: who can deliver us from this body of death?? who can save us? and what can save us? I thank God through Christ Jesus our Lord! As he died to save sinners- and to deliver us from the power of sin!!!

And when you think about it every human endeavour and intention by mortal man to be good or to live right or to do well -stay out of trouble - stay free from mischief! can only be likened to the man (to use an analogy) who spends all day buiding a sandcastle for his Son at the beach. Only for someone thoughtless and careless individual to come along - and trample on his son's castle - and knock it down.

This is likened to the problem of man trying to be good enough without the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It just plain doesnt work! neither will it work. In fact it can't.

We need the righteousness of Christ (is what we need) because our righteousness will never be good enough! in spite of how many "life coaches" and self improvement seminars - we attend - seeking answers.

No! the cold hard facts remain in spite of what postmodernism teaches and would have us believe - to the contrary No "mankind is a Sinner" he is also lost - and in need of saving - and in need of a saviour. Badly (full stop)

What are the facts? well without controversy " Christ Jesus came into the world to save those sinners" what is the truth? " Sin entered the world by one man, and death by sin; and so death has paased onto all men, for in that...all have sinned" ( and so now - do - all men - die )

What is the truth? Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day.

And We now live in that same hope - of life.

When its all said and done: the underlying root cause to man's plight! his errors, his wayward behavior and his crooked depraved ways and his dark fallen condition and sheer blindness of heart...which blindness mind you is a blindness caused by a desire to serve sin - and a love for the things of this World.

TO sum: We cannot blame "dysfunction" or some "psychosis" Nor can we really blame things on neglected chilhoods or parental abuse.(though these things might be contributing factors) however, we must stay with what the bible teaches.(and as narrow as that might sound to postmodern thinking) The facts are: Mankind goes astray because of one thing! and one thing only? "Sin" yes a heart that is bent on sinning! and therefore no band aid solution or sugar coating of the facts will eliminate this all powerful, convincing, and convicting bible packed - truth.

" That all have sinned and come short of God's glory"

"What is man's real problem? In a word "Sin"

Thanks for reading the post

God be with you all. Amen.

hi, sin is the outward manifistation of mans real problem. mans real problem is man.when a man is asked to come to the altar to except Jesus as Lord and Saviour, he should be told that altars are for total sacrifice...death and surrender of ones life to Christ.it really is not my life that i live but Christ. the only way is the way of the cross and ratical grace that He richly provides.jimp

Hi, i agree man has to get out the way ...in that sense!

And in a another very real sense: man is his "own" greatest problem and enemy. But lets not confuse the issue of what hinders man from serving God, and from knowing God - and from being "his" (Jesus) disciple.

This does not detract from sin as being the reason man is seperated from God ( which is the issue i believe i was addressing)

further to this consider the passage: Your "sins" have seperated between you and your God.

And not to sound like a smarty pants but paul further went on to say this " we who were sometime alienated from God in our minds - by wicked works "

Further I think the book of Romans does a much much better job than me ...at pointing out the origins of sin - and sins impact on humanity - and for that part - the entire world.

nevertheless i enjoyed your comments but honestly i will still stay with my present understanding of sin ....and i believe in the total depravity of the human heart. A heart that is in need of regeneration, renewing , and the washing of the word. To effect a total and permanent cure!

Having said this: not quite sure where you are coming from? some people believe sin is in the world and temptation exists because of it - but they deny inherent original sin. Meaning this: such dont believe man is born in Sin. But rather sin is in the world and human weakness is what yields to the temptations that abound in it. Its a popular doctrine in some evangelical circles - i know. But personally i dont hold to - or subscribe to such views.

hi son,i agree man was born with the sin of adam or a sin nature; aproclivety to sin... Jesus took care of sin on the cross and as we look to the finished work we are saved... the wrath of all sin has been put upon Jesus from the Father...those of us who are in Him have already passed from death to life and are risen with Him... the Father looks at us and sees only His Son... who is forever making intercession for us. it is a covenant from a covenant keeping God... Jesus cut the covenant for God and for man so that tho we are crippled and fearfull we can dine at His table and receive our reward...not because we are good but because He is good.jimp

SELF!

Autonomous from GOD = wanting to be the god of what they perceive to be their "own" life.

Self loves self only. What they feel towards others is only 'self-directed'. Their 'love' is based on human gratification of one sort or another, only.

Self-love.

Self-love is incapable of Loving The Creator or others as themselves.

Self is synonymous with pride.

Lucifer and Eve's sin/fall.

The real problem is that man is dead!!!!!!!!

Christ dealt with sin on the cross - Sin is no longer the real issue.

Only by faith can we receive Christ's very LIFE.

The real question is have you experienced His Life yet.

Modern psychology is built upon a foundation that is void of God. Pragmatism is one of its key foundation stones. It seeks to have man find a way to solve his own problems from within himself. But this simply does not work. We are spiritual beings and our problems cannot be solved by soulish methods. We must be transformed by the Spirit of God and this transformation must then be applied to every area of our lives so that we might be changed or transformed by the Spirit of God.

I went to a Dennis Jernigan concert last night at my church. He struggled with homosexuality in his youth. He said the last place he could go for help was the church. He said nobody understood him, and just gave him the usual "forsake your sins brother and turn it over to Jesus" responses.

That isn't bad advice I guess, but he said the guy who helped him the most was an unbeliever.

Man's real problem is a daddy issue--father son relationship problem. Sin makes it worse when we react to the hurt and pain in selfish ways that are sinful.

Sin is a symptom of pride and rebellion. Sin is not the problem. Sin tells us that we have a problem. Romans is a great source for information on sin. But my interpretation is far different. My take is that we are powerless to stop sinning. We can only stop living a life of sin through the saving grace of Jesus. There is no other way. We must submit to Christ and believe Him in order to be declared righteous. Nothing in Romans leads me to believe that I have to try hard not to sin. While we were still sinners Christ died for us. It's not a sin issue, it's a heart issue. Again, sin is the symptom of a heart gone astray.

Putting in a bunch of effort to stop sinning is as much a work of the flesh as drinking on Friday night. Our efforts should be to know Christ and let Him do the changing. Are you so foolish? Do you think that what began in the Spirit is now going to be perfected in the flesh?

I don't agree with everything you said. I thought of the verse that says, "You have not yet resisted unto blood striving against sin". I think it's in Hebrews. So the verse there says basically that you have not resisted enough.

H

To Endzone,
Yeah, it's Hebrews 12:4. I'm not sure this verse is talking directly to sinning. I think it's telling us that we haven't done as much as Jesus has done in the fight against sin. What Jesus did was nail our sin to the cross. This same chapter says in v. 2 to fix our eyes on Jesus who is the author and perfector of our faith. I'm not saying that we don't need to worry about sin, it's obvious from the Bible that sin is a big deal. I'm saying that our focus shouldn't be on trying to not sin. Out focus must be on Christ who has begun this good work in us and said He will be faithful to complete it. I really think that my view of sin (not being the problem) makes sin a bigger problem if that makes sense. If it was within our power to stop we could just stop. Since I believe it's a heart issue the implications of sin are even worse than just doing something that's on the "don't do" list. There is no list. If your heart strays, everything you do is sin, even breathing. People go to hell not because they drank too much. People go to hell because they reject God.

2 Tim. 2:24-26

24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

You said in your original post that everything can be boiled down to a sin problem. Well, you're wrong. Here are Christians who have a a "truth" problem. Jesus also said, "You will know the truth and the truth will make you free". The freedom He was talking about there is the freedom from sin.

Yes I can understand your frustration with those who go to counseling and this program and that program, and they can't seem to shake that sin issue which binds them. But are you just going to tell a Christian heroin addict or a Christian sex addict or a Christian alcoholic, "You just have a sin problem brother", and expect that after that great revelation they will be free?

What most people wrestle with (sex, drugs, profanity, pride, etc...) and consider sin are not what I would consider the problem. All of these actions are simply the fruits of sin. Perhaps it's strange for me to lump all sin together into one singular entity, but it all boils down to love.

Why does one drink into drunkeness? Cause one loves the drink more than Jesus. Why does one commit lude acts of sexual deviance? Cause one loves lust more than Jesus. Why does one become so prideful? Cause one loves oneself more than Jesus.

When people begin to fall head over heels in love with Jesus, sin will melt away from their lives! Jesus said that "if you love me, you will keep my commandments." Being in love with the saviour is key to being sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. It's His leading that renews our minds and transforms us into creatures that achieve spiritual maturity.

Love, peace, and joy are all incredibly important to having a glorious walk with God. But the most important is love (charity). Once we have the love for God and seek His kingdom, well... peace (sooo important) and joy (our strength) as well as righteousness (the solution to the posted problem) all come naturally. (Or supernaturally) ;)

Amen. What you have said here is spot on.

One thing I would say though is that I think one of Satan's greatest deceptions is to get people to fall in love with another Jesus than the Biblical Jesus. This keeps sin alive and well in the heart but kept under a veneer of false humility. It's prevalent in cults (inc the Word of Faith movement) and sad to say it is also widespread among 'Evangelical' youth groups.
