Charlie Sheen Wants To Be Me

by

Jimmy Humphrey

“Actor” and celebrity, Charlie Sheen, has made a big splash recently. Spinning out of control and self-destructing in front of the entire world, his recent “bad boy” antics have probably gained him more attention and notoriety than anything he has ever done on TV or in the movies. His melodramatic actions and sayings are being gobbled up by news media that wouldn’t normally give him the time of day. People who were otherwise unaware of his existence are now suddenly caught up into the man who has become something of a train wreck.

Sheen is flaunting himself to the world as a rock star from Mars who deserves the adoration of millions. Indeed, the idea conveyed to the masses is that we all should want to be like Charlie Sheen. After all, he literally makes millions of dollars from every TV episode he appears in, and has access to all the women and drugs one could ever hope for. I should want to be Charlie Sheen.

But the truth of the matter is when the rubber meets the road: Charlie Sheen wants to be me.

Charlie Sheen may not realize it, but in spite of all of what Charlie Sheen says he has, I would say Charlie Sheen has nothing. He says he is rich and need in nothing, and I say he is naked and poor and in need of everything. What Sheen is doing is nothing other than what millions of people do every day in this world. He is trying to fill that “God-sized hole” in his heart. As Solomon said, God has set eternity in our hearts, and Sheen is vainly and desperately attempting to fill his heart with that which only God can fill. In spite of their claims, money, drugs and porn stars can never deliver on their promises to truly fill that empty space in a broken humanity. They never satisfy.

With Christ, I have everything Charlie Sheen could ever dream of having, but will never obtain. I have a purpose for being in Christ, and am filled with the love, joy, and peace that comes from knowing Him. Indeed, in Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all and who possesses all things, I have all things. All things are mine in Him, and I lack for nothing.

At the end of the day, though I plug away in a clerical role at a law office making a humble wage, living in a two bedroom apartment, and am single, I would say that in Jesus Christ, I have everything that Charlie Sheen wants, but does not have. Indeed, even what he claims to have he actually lacks. Though radically different in the lifestyle he is living, the impulses Sheen is acting on every single day shows that in reality, though he would probably deny it, Charlie Seen wants to be me.

"Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

Luke 18:10-14

After reading the post by King jimmy I just have to say that I am not really sure what you were trying to convey here with your post??? For that reason and how what you shared comes across I agree with what Neil posted.

The purpose of my post is to show how what the world claims it has is not what it appears to be. Indeed, instead of having abundance, the Lord sees the poverty, lack, and want. My post is not meant in any self righteous tone that is taking holier-than-thou shots at Charlie Sheen. Indeed, having been a recipient of much grace for much sin, I can never take such an attitude towards any.

I can say this of a truth... "but for the grace of God, there goes I." And my heart breaks watching him blather on about himself on tv. The man needs prayer, not another analysis like the worldly tv news program is doing.

Everything you wrote is true but can you encourage people to pray for him? Catholic or not, I'm quite sure his father would love for Godly to be lift up his son before God.

God bless,
Lisa

I read a couple of articles about what is happening with Charlie Sheen, and what I find interesting is that hatred for the Jewish people seems to be creeping up in the entertainment industry. That is a hard thing to imagine since the industry appears to be filled with Jews - which is probably the reason for it's great "success."

Just what will happen to Hollywood in the end times?

King Jimmy I guess I get what your saying but as Lisa said this guy is lost and in need of much prayer. He is deceived and on a very dangerous path. Have you any thoughts about praying for his eyes to be opened to the truth that he might repent and be saved? Just wondering cause you made no mention of it...

As much as I dont particularly care for Hollywood types, Charlie Sheen is a tragedy. For himself, for his children, for his mother and father, for his siblings. As an ex-addict who has a drug addicted brother and sister, it makes me weep to think that thier sins would be displayed so publicly. Some may argue that he is in the public eye therefore he deserves it, and there may be some merit to that argument, but I would rather see mercy triumph over judgement. The people who interview this man are like vultures, tearing pieces of flesh from him and throwing it to the crowd. I can see what Jimmy was trying to say,and I do not dis-agree with anything that he said, I guess it all dependes on how low down in this life one has went. When Jesus says that those who are forgiven much love much,I can certainly testify to that. My boasting would be in how low I had been and how the Lord forgave me........... brother Frank

Yes, we should be praying for him. I know I have some.

Very interesting question. I wish I had an answer.

I think there is also a strain of hatred for you running through his veins, despite the underlying axiological argument you are making. The Bible does paint the wicked as God haters who love their sin and want nothing to do with God, His righteousness, or those that follow after Him. I think it's one of those sublime paradoxes of scripture. What do you think KJ?

Dear brother, you wrote:

Thanks for expressing the usual disagrement Neil :-)

please...please hear me; the millisecond after i finished reading your post, that portion of Scripture, Luke 18:10-14
popped into my heart....it was NOT "thought out", i didnt lay in wait, rubbing my hands together....no.

so WHY did that portion of Scripture come to me?

and Who did it come from, and Who's Words are those?

Why would Charlie Sheen want to be you?...why would he want to be me?.....and why would we want to be him?......we are all fearfully and wonderfully made, unique, exquisite, like gems. Look at a lil baby, how precious and beautiful thay are, do you think ANY parent worth their salt, could bear the sight of that beautiful baby, as a shriveled babbling middle age man making a national fool of himself?

i tell you what, the devil loves this sad spectacle, coz his lil demons, "crack" and "meth" are claiming yet another victim.....and what the devil fears more than anything, is that the prayers of his saints, golden bowls of incense, ascend Heavenward, and then are returned in the glorious testimony of a public figure such as Charlie, washed clean in the Blood of Jesus, gloriously and miraculously BORN AGAIN, filled with the Holy Ghost, and like many Biblical healings, leaping for joy in this sordid marketplace, we call "mass media"......impossible?

You know better, Everything is possible in the Lord.

Hence, my posting of Luke 18:10-14 was just obedience.

No doubt, it is a great truth. Sinners hate God. Yet even in their fallen humanity, there is a longing for Him. Much as a wound that longs to be healed.

so WHY did that portion of Scripture come to me?

Not sure. Wasn't there when it happened. But, being that no such intention as such was whatsoever in me when I made the post, I'm pretty sure it didn't have anything to do with me.
