i was told that when you die your spirit goes to heaven to rest or ya body is sleeping in heaven i dont think that is right unless i see scriptures on the subject? father in the name of jesus send someone to answer this question for me thank you
Your body is asleep (dead) until the resurrection and Paul said the believer is with Christ after death.
2 Cor. 5:6-8, "Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."
Phil. 1:21-23, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:"
There are scriptures to support the idea that we do inherit a physical body when we get to heaven (the Martyrs under the altar in Revelation, chapter 6 I think). There's also support that this body will have continuity from our earthly body, so I'd be able to recognize my best friend upon reaching heaven.
Also of note, rememeber that this heaven you're talking about is not eternal. We will not stay there forever. Once Christ returns there will be a New Heaven and a New Earth. Physical places for us to dwell in, totally free from sin and corruption, for all eternity.
I recommend, if you're really interested in the subject, checking out Randy Alcorn's book "Heaven". Working my way through it now and it's changing a lot of what I originally thought about Heaven.
