Biblical Truth in Amish Community [Videos]

Hi,

There a two wonderful documentaries which were aired on the BBC recently in the UK. These are about some of the Amish community who are coming to know Jesus through biblical truth proclaimed by brothers ministering to the Amish.

It was so encouraging to be watching the documentaries and see brother Denny Kenaston preaching at a tent mission to the Amish!

The documentaries follow a couple of Amish families as they pray about leaving the Amish community and joining Charity Christian Fellowship, an evangelical church. These videos are worth watching to help understand what Amish brother and sisters go through when leaving their communities to put all their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. The two documentaries are entitled:

After watching these, please pray for a work of God within the Amish community and that many would surrender their lives to Christ.

I watched the first set of videos about this. It was pretty good. They seem to really have a heart for the Lord at any cost! And Praise the Lord to have such a witness on national TV.

I sent it to one of my "used-to-be" Amish friends.

Their families would not talk to them for years after being saved. I'm sure it was heartbreaking for them. At least they had one another!

I grew up in one of the largest Amish communities that there is, but ironically, never knew much about them until being saved, and meeting others that came out of the Amish.

This is so heartbreaking. I couldn't help but think how much that Amish church resembled those Jews who hold onto their traditions believing that keeping the Law would save them, when in fact no man can be saved through his works but through faith in Christ alone. "Follow the church's rules, and you'll get into Heaven." How tragic, a community founded on the Bible and the passion for Christ has lost its roots in the faith because of tradition! Right here in America! It's astounding. May God bring about a mighty work in these people for His glory.

One must realize that not all Amish are like this. There are some very spiritual Amish.

Several years ago I did some oral interviews of mom's cousins. In the course of interviewing, I learned there was a mighty move of God in that community among the Amish back in the early 1950s! The fascinating thing about it that these revival meetings were held in a Mennonite church whose members would pick up their Amish neighbors to go to these services. And it was the Amish who experienced a real revival, not the Mennonites! Among them was my preacher-grandfather!

Around 25 years ago we attended an Amish funeral in Missouri, this being the first Amish funeral I remember ever attending. I was gratified when I heard the minister say in his sermon that one does not get to heaven because of the type of clothes one wears, but only through the blood of Jesus Christ.

There is a New Order Amish group that is very spiritual and experience great admiration from other Christians for their faith and spirituality.

While some groups are very traditional, others may be very carnal, just like modern churches and then you have spiritual groups - big variety. Actually, I would love to make this a research project - go to their homes and talk with them but before one could ever get a conversation going you would have to dress Amish..SIGH

Yes, revival can happen anywhere in some very unexpected ways. And my childhood was heavily influenced by this revival in our community...how little I knew that untill I was a grandmother!

MAN! What a wonderful documentary! I only got to watch the first one because the second one wouldn't load. The whole time I thought to myself "I AM JUST LIKE THESE GUYS!" Its been about 6 months since I was "excommunicated" from my church because I stood up for what I believed so my heart truly goes out to these families! I about starting crying when they mentioned them giving away all their money to help someone else out WHAT LOVE!! Ugh this is just so awesome I am going to be sharing this with everyone I come into contact with! :) Thank you for sharing it!

Hi loved the two shows, i think their split over two years, the bbc guy wanting to check how the family was doing...

I was a little confused by one section, the show seem to imply that his new church was super strict, and it was there idea to knock that house down due to mold and a reference to a house/mold in the old testament ?? Seems a bit extreame, did i get that right? Is that Danny Kenaston church?

I'm encouraged others have also found these videos an encouragement! I hope that these will encourage more Christians to pray for a zeal like some of these men have in the videos!

@Natan4Jesus that's wonderful that you will hopefully soon be living in an area with a large Amish population, I hope and pray God gives you opportunity to share with them.

@strawrifle I was also surprised about knocking down the house because of mold. Can anyone (who knows for sure) tell me if the older Amish males are REQUIRED to grow Jebediah-style beards? Or perhaps they choose to do so, so as to be recognized as Amish.

I liked the Trouble in Amish Paradise, but it appeared that BBC was trying to make Ephraim look a bit on the fringe and fanatical in the 2nd one, Leaving Amish Paradise. Maybe not though... I've met some of them, they're a sweet family.

Blaine, one question - how can you separate the two: the heart from the external? You cannot.

A Christian woman who covers her head when praying or prophesying is not doing it as an act of virtue but as an act of obedience. Obedience is the goal, not virtue.

Granted, there are many who do it for all the wrong reasons, but that does not nullify scriptural directives. It does not nullify the fact that Jesus is the head of the church, nor that man is the head of woman, or that woman needs a sign of power on her head because of the angels. Blaine, it is a lot like this: there are many people who marry and divorce. This reality does not mean one should quit marrying because 50% of all marriages end up in the divorce courts. NO! We encourage marriage for all the right reasons among the greatest is that God ordained it so. Get my point? Why some abuse it is between them and God - it is no excuse for my own disobedience.

About the Muslim females wearing a veil - do you not know they adopted this practice from the Christians? In addition to this they did a few more very unBiblical things. And Jewish ladies - I have seen and talked with an Orthodox Jewish woman a few years ago who wore a head covering. Her husband wore an yarmulke. She told me she wore it for modesty sake.

My point is we cannot look to others, see their abuse and based on this decide how one should obey the WORD.
