To live beyond the edge of hope

sermonindex Mar 31, 2011

TO LIVE BEYOND THE EDGE OF HOPE

To live beyond the edge of hope
Is to dangle daily from a rope
In a perpetual dance with death itself
Beyond this world and all its wealth

There is a world of blue and green
But to the dark eye its all unseen
A world of orange, red and yellow too
But from the rope its beyond all view

For from the rope there’s shades of grey
And sleepless nights and endless days
And every now and then some light
But just enough to confirm the night

There was a time I dangled from this rope
At the edge of hell and beyond all hope
I lived my life, just hanging there
Crushed and broken, suspended in the air

Then Jesus came and cut me down
He raised me up to wear a crown
A pauper raised to walk with kings
A voicless man but now who sings

Of all the glories of the Lord
Who came with Word and deed and sword
And conquered hell and death and sin
Restoring joy and hope within

Now all the world is bright to me
No matter what my eyes can see
No longer dangling from the rope
I walk with Jesus, I walk with hope

And above the clouds I know its true
The sun shines bright and the sky is blue
And when a shaft of light appears
It warms my heart and quells my fears

Now if your dangling from that rope
And this lie cries out, there is no hope
Cry out to the one who can cut you down
He will raise you up and you will wear a crown!

The title moved me. It describes a realm that inspires all sorts of thoughts worthy of one's attention. Philosophy and meditation are highly underrated in fast-paced, western civ.

This is beautiful! I've been saved long enough that I haven't recently pondered how it was when I was beyond the edge of hope....we would do well to meditate on the thought and be ever grateful! However, I do NOT want to ponder too much on those I love who are "in a perpetual dance with death itself".... Very scary thought...Especially when you have warned and warned. Thank you for sharing this.

Brothers and sisters, this is what the Lord delivered me from 20 years ago. What brought it back and prompted this poem was looking into the eyes of one I love so dearly and seeing hopelessness. As I looked, the line came into my spirit, from the Holy Spirit I believe, " To live beyond the edge of hope." Oh brothers and sisters, its a dark dark realm and the multitudes dwell there, but its the one we love within the crowd that brings it sharply into focus. For every one who knows Jesus, rejoice every day for the hope that is in you. Weep for the lost, rejoice in the steadfast love of the Lord, it never ceases and His mercies are new every morning............brother Frank

Brothers and sisters, please pass this poem along to anyone you know who may be living in deep darkness. Perhaps trials and circumstances have overwhelmed them and they are now in this realm of hopelessness where they cannot see any light. As one who lived there for the first 26 years of my life, my heart breaks for the broken, the crushed, the captive, the blind. When Jesus stood up in the temple and gave notice to the enemy that He had come to restore these people, the angels in heaven rejoiced. The realm of darkness had been pierced by light, and since darkness is the absence of light, I pray that we will be light to an ever darkeing world. Hope to the hopeless, in Christ alone............brother Frank
