One Million Christians sign EU religion plea

All this is leading us to a united Europe, with a united religion, in which everybody is tolerated, except those who stand up for the truth of Jesus Christ.I'm not enthusiastic about the fact that over a million people signed a petition in which they ask the EU to refer to God in the constitution.I would rather see one million people praying, than one million people signing a petition. I would rather see one million people getting on their knees to KNOW God, than one million people desiring to NAME God on a piece of paper.What would it mean to Europe, if God was referred to in the constitution? Not much I suppose. Only some dead, meaningless words.What would it mean to Europe, if God again was preached from the pulpit? Much I suppose. A living God, pouring out His Spirit upon His Church. Then we don't need to sign petitions about a God, we would simply show this world God.How great it would be, to see one million people seeking the true living God. It may be that many outside Europe (and even inside) are unaware of the varying positions held by Christians on this issue. All political parties with 'Christian Democratic' in their title in Europe are Catholic and the view of many is that the European Union is a re-integrating of the Holy Roman empire which was somewhat unsettled by the Reformation! The Christian Democratic philosophy is based upon strong links with the Catholic Church. The UK has never had any 'Christian Democratic' parties. This philosophy and the the resurgence of a 'Holy Roman Empire' was certainly the view of Helmut Kohl and this will be part of the reason why the Pope and many Catholics will have signed this petition. In this sense a 'Christian Coalition' is more likely to be a political coalition of Catholic political parties and a few folks who haven't sussed out what is happening.There are a fair number of evangelicals who see European Union as much more ominous, depending on their eschatology. Many who regard Europe as the predicted 10 kingdoms; After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. Although I have a certain sympathy with the old Brethren who used to say that "it was not the Church's responsibility to tame the wild beasts of Daniel 7 but to call out a people for the Lamb."But there will be many Christians therefore who would never sign such a petition because of its implications; the foundation treaty of the European Union is called The Treaty of Rome. The news item is interesting but much more complicated that many might realize.
