Paul,
During the ECT (Evangelicals and Catholics Together) Conference in 1997 between Evangelicals and Catholics, there was a mutual agreement to STOP evangelizing each other. One of the countries that this would have a big effect in would be Catholic populated Phillipines. Just something to think about. I don't know what your minister's reasons are but evangelizing catholics is now frowned upon by the "NEW" Evangelicals and some Christians may be feeling "pressure" to not do this and in most cases may not understand why.
If you are not acquainted with ECT, here is a synopsis and the Protestant signers at the bottom.

Most would read this and say, "That sounds real good". But, it is extremely deceptive. Here, Richard Bennett, exposes exactly what is being conveyed. He is an ex-Dominican Priest who has bravely stood up to the machinations of the RCC for many years. His website is www.bereanbeacon.org

This may explain some things. If not, at least you and others will be aware of this. The next big thing that the NEW Evangelicals and Catholics signed together was called the "Manhattan Declaration".
