What does Easter mean to you?

M
mguldner Apr 24, 2011

I just thought I would ask, and I don't mean the commercialized holiday I mean the true meaning behind Easter, ie the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The reason I ask is because I believe it should be an interesting topic.

God Bless and HAPPY EASTER,
Matthew

Before any other revelation, God gave me an understanding of eternity. I'm not sure what the resurrection would mean with that dimension - the eternal sacrifice - the eternal Spirit.

Many years later, I began to comprehend Ephesians 1: the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set [him] at his own right hand in the heavenly [places], far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all [things] under his feet, and gave him [to be] the head over all [things] to the church, which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Still working on that bit!

The Gospel of Mark has the Passover theme all over Chapter 14, we read about the Resurrection of the Lord in Mark 16!

Mar 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
Mar 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
Mar 16:3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
Mar 16:4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
Mar 16:5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
Mar 16:6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

This was in fulfillment of Psalm 16: (Easy to remember)

Psa 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Psa 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Happy Easter Everyone

i can "see" with my hearts eye, Mary at the opened Tomb, i can hear her speaking with the men in blazing white clothing. I can see her face as she realizes the "gardener" is really the Ressurected Lord, how her heart must have leapt! i can hear the patter of her feet running off to tell the others. i can see dear John Zebedee and Simon Peter just bolting, running towards the Tomb.

What wonderous thoughts must have been coursing thru their hearts as they peered inside, or the pregnant silence in the closed upper room, when Jesus appeared, and asked for some fish!!!

Its SO REAL to me, that i cant pervert it with "bunnies and eggs".....i think instead of the Joy of watching the Risen Lord enjoy a bit of broiled fish!!!

(later add-if folks wanna have chocolate bunnies and colored eggs, that is absolutely fine, no judgement on my part, i just don't "get" it, Jesus Risen, doesnt make me think of chocalate bunnies or colored eggs, thats all i meant)

Its SO REAL to me, i just cant understand why the whole world doesnt or cant exult in that REALITY, that Messiah has come!!!! He is Risen, the Last Passover Lamb, Son of God, our Advocate reconcilling us all to God.

forget the "egg hunts" and the chocolate bunnies, and all the extra traditions tacked on to such a Glorious Truth, i want to go out now, and get a piece of fish, (i rarely eat fish) but i just want to broil it, and when i eat it, think of the Risen Lord enjoying some fish with His disciples, drink some grape juice, and think of Jesus.

i want to get up, and just dance and shout for joy!!!

thats what "Easter" (the last Passover) means to me...JOY IN THE RISEN LORD!

Amen Neil.

I think there is a message in here from the Lord to us.

14th Book of the Bible talks about the 14th day.

2Ch 30:15 Then they KILLED THE PASSOVER on the FOURTEENTH day of the second month: and the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and sanctified themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the house of the LORD.

2Ch 35:1 Moreover Josiah kept a passover unto the LORD in Jerusalem: and THEY KILLED THE PASSOVER on the FOURTEENTH day of the first month.

2Ch 35:11 And THEY KILLED THE PASSOVER, and the priests sprinkled the blood from their hands, and the Levites flayed them.

FOURTEENTH CHAPTER OF MARK (easy to remember, now)

Mar 14:12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when THEY KILLED THE PASSOVER, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and PREPARE that thou mayest eat the passover?

(I'm not sure this works in other translations and this is another reason I like the KJV. You can LINK up words from the OT to the NT which correlate similar meanings. But when words are changed, it messes everything up. For instance in ESV, in 2Chron it is "slaughtered" and in Mark 14 it is "sacrificed". "Killed" is actually an easier word.

In ASV it is "killed" and "sacrificed", respectively. I just appreciate the continuity of meaning in the KJV. This is a simple example but I find this literally hundreds of times. If they "killed the Passover" in the OT, why isn't it "killed the Passover" in the NT?

Just a side note I wanted to bring out, no need for discussion on this, but I recognize this problem all the time and it just brings confusion to my study. I think if you are going to really study the word, have a KJV handy. When the Lord is trying to emphasize something via redundancy, it is kind of hard to see it in the new versions. Just bringing this up for your consideration. Selah.)

Anyway, back to these verses. I think the Lord has something deeper, in these verses for us.

This is what Easter means to me!!

Thirty three years ago on Easter Sunday, during my once a year visit to church, He spoke to me. It wasn’t an altar call that saved me, I was converted in my seat. But I really did I asked the guy I took to church with me if he said something and he shht’d me and I knew it was God and thought, “Oh noooo.” Then God said it again; I had all my fears calmed in like a nano second and the last thing I remember saying to Him in my mind was, “If this doesn’t work, I’m coming back.” And suddenly, I felt this huge smile and great peace flood my soul. It was awesome! The guy asked me on the way home if I got saved and I said with this huge smile on my face, “I don’t know, but I think I did!” My life was never the same after that! Praise His holy name!!

He used my once a year visit to call me out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Pet 2.9), but not just for my sake alone (I don’t think He does anything for just one person but that’s just me.) He called me (and you) out of darkness to..... “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.” Acts 26:18

Thank you Father in name of your only Son for taking time out of me, to speak to me, to change me forever; I still stand amazed at His great love and the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living (Ps 27.13).

God bless,
Lisa
