I'm Sorry

M

There once was a land called “I’m sorry”
Its people were proudly contrite
Though love was their aim in society
– they walked in more darkness than light
They feasted on words of forgiveness
but faithfulness rarely was heard
“We must pursue peace” was their motto,
but pain was an unwelcome word

None suspected their ruler was Satan,
or his law hid behind all their smiles
The appearance of peace only shallow,
covering bitterness embedded for miles
A visitor was always impressed
by their cordial demeanor and air
But little suspected the fault line
and earthquakes that frequented there

Backbiting and bitter emotions
oft erupted behind their closed doors
And neat looking rugs covered messes
that littered their polluted floors
For despite all their noble intentions,
self protection was their common cause
They cared more for surface appearance
than mending the depth of their flaws

Those loyal to homeland “I’m sorry”
boast freedom through grace every day
But when suffering and pain come to visit,
they never are welcomed to stay
We live where our choices have led us,
and shallow peace is a great loss
The only escape from “I’m sorry”
is choosing to embrace His cross

Excellent. That the best poem I've read in a long time.

God bless.
