When writers write, either they have some new thought (in their opinion) to add to a current discussion, or, they wish to challenge someone else's statements or contribution to that discussion.
In this way, in every generation, there are writers whose observations are more appropriate for their own generation than for any other generation to come.
The similarities which we notice should not divert us from, or blind us to, those matters which previous writers did not address because they were not relevant then, which we SHOULD be addressing in and for our present generation.
Nor should we assume that others read their thoughts with the same spiritual eyes, ears and heart open as we do. Indeed, they may see more than we do, hear more than we do, and have their hearts more open than ours.
