Welcome to SI Moses, I'm glad the Lord brought you here. You will be blessed by the wonderful people and resources available here. I would like to direct you to Zac Poonen for encouragement in this matter. I will pray that that are filled and have the witness of the Spirit that you might walk in peace and joy.

Peace be on you.

Hi Brother. Welcome here.

I believe that GOD needs to get our preconceived notions of what the filling or baptism in His Spirit is -- as in, How the event will manifest, etc. etc..
Absolute surrender to Him - Glorifying Him with life and lips in Praise - seeking Him from His Word alone and knowing that He promised to fill and then, just leave it there in Trust. He knows your heart and your heart's desire. Seeking the Giver and not the gifts is honored.
Praying and saying to Him, "I want all that You are" is something He already knows and will bless - but we sometimes have our own thoughts on what and why we want this. 'How' we believe He should do it and when. What manifestations are we looking for. What is the true heart of the reason that we want what we believe will happen when He does pour out.
We don't always know our own hearts. We must remember that we do not know our own hearts. He knows us through-and-through and after we've exhausted our own notions and reasons for wanting to be filled, Then He comes through and the fullness will give a much stronger hunger for His Word and The Spirit of Truth will bring His Word to Life more than ever before. The "gifts" are secondary and also up to Him - as far as how He uses us, "severely as He Wills".

Worship Him with your life and lips and believe that He knows your heart's desire and then just Trust Him that He knows what He needs to do to prepare the ground and purify the reasons and ideas we have about the baptism.
"Trusting Him" that He knows, is the greatest thing that we can do, besides praying to be purified.

'Trust' the 'Promise' of The Father - Luk 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Luk 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Luk 11:10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Luk 11:11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
Luk 11:12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
Luk 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?

Jeremy and JIG speak truth. In this prusuit which as they have said, should be a pursuit of God Himself, you will receive the Love and Gifts of the Father. He does however work in ways that are most often contrary to our expectations, (Thank You God), for He knows what is good for us, when it is good for us, and when it is not good for us. Trust in Him to give you what He sees best to give you, for His timing is perfect.

Welcome to SI.

Stop seeking the holy spirit. Im saying this becuase thats where I went wrong. Rather Matt 6:33 says"Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need." It took me a while. I even still to this day after running so many years question as to wether I had him or if I was playing church. God is not going to send you out among wolves without his Spirit if you are his. :) So seek Jesus. Seek his righteousness. By the way thats what the Holy Spirit is here for to point to Christ. Thennnn Recieve the Holy Spirit. :)

God bless ya I hope that made sense and I hope I havnt spoken out of line. :)

Greetings, You seek Him for He bids you come unto Him. 'If you being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give you the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him' To everyone it comes in differences and differnt timing. Many saints received it years after their salvation; some received it upon their salvation. Andrew Murray wrote a book answering this very question of yours; may I recommend it to you, 'The Full Blessing of Pentecost, the One Thing Needful'. But Murray says this for all of us. 'Let everyone who longs for the blessing of the Spirit take these 4 little sayings as steps: I must be filled; I may be filled; I would be filled; and I will be filled."
continue to seek and soon you shall find for He that cannot lie has promised it.
until,
dbiser

Friend, Moses, I believe the advice is excellent which you were given that you seek first the kingdom of heaven and His righteousness and God will give you the measure of His Spirit which you need to daily walk with Him and perform the service to which He calls you. The Lord has repeatedly shown me what were, I believe, counterfeits of His Holy Spirit which ultimately led people away from the truth of God's Word. It is dangerous to seek "experiences" rather than daily serving Him and trusting Him to supply all our need in Christ as we bring our needs to Him in prayer. He has shown to me that He requires me to trust Him when my feelings seem all wrong, obey Him when it makes no sense to my human understanding, always do what I aught to do rather than what seems expedient to my fleshly rationalization and believe in His goodness when circumstances scream at me to think otherwise. May he lead you to Himself!

Being desperate for God is what every believer should desire: Ps. 42:1 "As the deer panteth after the waterbrooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God"

Seek the God of the Word...not just the knowledge of the Lord. Read Amos 5:4-10
