What heaven will be | SermonIndex

Can you imagine what a terrible place heaven would be if people could say what they did to get there? Can you imagine the bragging, the jealousy, the contempt, or even the misdirected worship? These things are all very fitting for the other place, but there is no place to be found for them in heaven. There all these things will be absent, therefore the way in had to be made by another way than anything we could claim as “ours”. It is then that we look at what great thing another did to bring us there with Him, it leaves no room for bragging, or jealousy or contempt or misdirected worship. The plan of salvation ENTIRELY in Christ from beginning to end takes all that man would boast of, and gives all right to boast and to receive worship to the one who deserves it, the one who is mighty to save.

What a beautiful place heaven will be, where not one boast can be uttered, save in greatness of the risen Christ.

Awesome, profound thoughts, Joe.

I believe heaven to be a literal place. I also think the earth would be almost like heaven if sin did not rule here. In any case, I am so looking forward to getting there.

My husband's cousin asked this question one day "if we believe we are going to be with the LORD when we die, why do people go to such great lengths to prevent that?" Something to think about.

Just a few thoughts to add

I don't know if you have ever read this but in a passage from C.S. Lewis' "The Great Divorce" a women enters heaven and demands to see her late son so she can be with him forever, even if it means dragging him back to hell, so the inhabitants say that all she must do is to give up her over-protective, selfish love for her son and give him into heaven and she can see him. She ends up exploding into a giant cloud of soul fragments.

When I read this it struck a nerve in me, it made me realize that we must die to ourselves completely, give up EVERYTHING. Even our children. So then the question is, will you be willing to give up everything?

Excellent thoughts Brother Joe. My desire to go has increased even the more of late and a very dear Saint I know said the same last week, though her life here is good.

We don't exactly know who the 24 elders are that have seats around His very Throne, but if they fall down before Him in worship and throw their crowns down at His feet, I'm more than certain that we will as well.

"I can only imagine" - but Heaven's sounding sweeter everyday.

And many will say in that day, Didn't I pray in your name? and Didn't I do good things in your name? and didn't I repent in your name? and didn't I fast in your name? and didn't I...

Those that present their righteousness before the Righteous One never knew Him, and this is why they still try to present their righteousness in that day. But Christ will cast them out saying I don't even know who you are.

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' Blood and HIS righteousness.

Oh, how I look forward to that perfect light! Often my husband and I have a difficult time getting the light bright enough to see something on which we are working. We speak of how wonderful to have light come from every direction, clear, perfect light, no shadows. I take pleasure in thinking of how it will be but my thoughts are only imaginings of my feeble brain. The reality of being with Jesus is beyond imagining. This I do know, it is real. He lives!
