pray: I need it

D
Dillman Jun 23, 2011

For the last few years I have been struggling with an addiction to pornography and masturbation and it is time for it to stop. The Lord has told me what I must do to overcome this addiction but it requires a lot of sacrifice and lets just say my pride will be virtually nonexistent afterwards. I know this is the right thing to do but it is hard. So may I ask that you fellow believers pray that I may be granted the strength to overcome my addictions, my fears, and my pride. thank you.

Dillman,

Praise God for your honesty! That's where any deliverance begins. Here is a quote:

Self-indulgence is the law of death. Self-denial is the law of life.
~ H.W. Hodge

You wrote: "and lets just say my pride will be virtually nonexistent afterwards." Be on the look out brother, pride always looks for a place to rear it's ugly head. We can wind up being prideful over all of our sacrifice to get rid of thing! It's like the watchman on the wall... we've got to be alert and always mindful of the enemy! Brother, I'm not telling you what to do but encouraging you and speaking to you like I would my own sons.

Just reading your post, I do not know what "a lot of sacrifice" includes but please consider including fasting from food as well. I have heard several preachers speak of how food and lust go hand in hand. I'm just throwing that out there for you... it's something to ponder and pray about it!

I will be praying for you and for your victory over this besetting sin.

God bless you,
Sister Lisa

Hey Dillman,

Go to a private place to pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus pleading His blood to cleanse you from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. Humble yourself before God when you pray by coming to Him in the only name that you can approach Him in understanding that you are not praying on account of your righteousness which is filthy rags but on the account of Jesus righteousness.

Pray for the Lord Jesus to cleanse you by His precious blood and give you power over this stronghold. Fill your mind and heart with the Word of God and make a covenant with your eyes that you will only look and think on Philippians 4:8 (NKJV) Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.

Pray for God to fill you with His Spirit and continue with Ephesians 5:18-19 (NKJV) 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

Also read Ephesians 6:10-18 (NKJV) 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

Finally brother be determined to seek God daily in pray and Ephesians 4:17-24 (NKJV) 17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Also 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 (NKJV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. 23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.

And 1 John 2:28 (NKJV) And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

And 1 John 3:1-9 (NKJV) 1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. 4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

And James 4:6-10 (NKJV) 6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

Blessings to you!

Few men could say they have not struggled in one way or another with lust but few will confess it. Honesty and confession is a must and a giant step in sanctification. God uses men like this. Do understand what became of the Israelites by not clearing the land. We men must seek God's help and we must clear the land when the Spirit speaks to us or we will fall prey to its sin.

Thank GOD you're only 15 years old Brother and can learn right off the bat to not go beyond what is written.

There is so much out there about how to quit this or that and calling sin everything but what the Word calls it and blaming everything else on earth for our own self-centeredness - which that is all that sin is.

I pray to GOD that you can just follow what is in His Word about this or any other sin under the sun.
It's good to just compile a written list of all that is in the Epistles about this sin. It's surprising what is written about it. No 5, 8 or 12 step programs. His Words just say to possess your vessel, flee, and basically, to paraphrase, just avoid looking at what you shouldn't and just "knock it off". :)
I smile because The Word doesn't play favorites and doesn't stretch our SELF-life way out of proportion like the 10,000,000 'Teachers' we have in this day, that add to the Word of GOD by the volumes without a thought of what they're saying. Adding & subtracting to His Word is the biggest sin of this generation and that's what 99.9% of book writers, blogs, websites, preachers etc are doing.
"The fear of GOD" is to honor His Word and fear going beyond He has written in any way.
It seems those of the Old Testament knew that better than we do in this day. "Fear GOD and live" Always meant to fear His Word but this last generation has gone literally nuts, adding their own words and thus subtracting from His.

Praying you'll love His Word. Amen, that's the bottomline on all sin or the thing that hinders His nature in us.
The more we love ourselves, the less we love and jealously guard and protect His Word and vice versa. Sad but true and that's the apostasy He said would come.

He's given all His Best to you, Isaac. Guard His Word in your heart. GOD Bless you!

Dearest Dillman,

The very second any ungodly thought comes to your mind, the exact second -Say these words out loud.

"Get behind me satan" In the powerful Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth".

Then you can say,

"I have been set free by the Blood of Jesus Christ and satan you have no part of my life."

Even though my situation is different, I have found out the second anything comes to my mind, I say these words and it will leave. but if I ponder these thoughts and try to do it in my own strength I give in to them.

It doesn't matter what kind of thoughts, just any that are lies from satan, temptations, negative, thoughts about someone etc. this works because the power is all in His Name!

I will pray as well. Put on the praise & worship music too. This helps keep our mind on Him.

You have all of Heaven and the saints of God on your side. He is greater than anything at any time and most powerful is HIS NAME. Jesus Christ! Be glorified here Lord and give Dillman Your strength. Glory to Your Name.

Bringing your sin out from the dark place it wants to hide is a bold step - one that many grown men have shied away from, and reaped the consequences of it.

Take heart from the truth that God is ready to forgive all who truly repent, is able to cleanse you of your sin, and the guilt and shame of it, freeing you from its power, making you a clean and holy man.

2 Pet 1 encourages us that we can be partakers of the divine nature - that we can be made more and more into the image of Christ, holy and blameless in his sight.

Take heart from the indescribable grace, unending mercy, and strengthening power of God available to you, not simply to forgive you, but to remove form you the desire to sin.

God bless you!

Dillman, I will pray for you. I can pray with great understanding because this is something that plagued me from as early an age as 5 years old. I would sneak a playboy out of my moms beauty shop (which was in our house) and go hide under the couch and look at it (this was in 1965) Even at such an early age there was a great draw and fascination. Obviously not according to the design God has set for us. I battled everything that came with this and eventually it played itself out into many a relationship that was based on my sexual satisfaction. I left much damage in my wake! The fight for purity is a daily one since coming to Christ.

I wanted to clarify what I posted earlier so as not to be misunderstood. When I spoke of clearing the land, and you may already understand the reference, I meant to clear or restrict all the sources of temptation you can, cell phone, computer, TV, Movies, books, magazines, and situations with girls that will place you in a setting that can initiate as well as feed lust. Joseph ran from temptation. Job hid his eyes from it. We should do the same. Feel free anytime to email me here.

You are beloved by your Heavenly Father dear brother!
Hoping the following words (by Charles Stanley) will encourage you. And you will receive strenght, by the Holy Spirit, Keep on reading the Word and be in prayer so you are able to, by His grace "live out the Christian life victoriously."
Shalom,browny,

The Power Within

Ephesians 3:14-21

Bertha Smith, a missionary to China, once expressed some of the most discouraging words I’d ever heard. “Charles, I want to tell you that you’re as good as you’ll ever be. You’re as good as you’ve ever been, and you won’t ever be any better than you are.”

I had grown up believing a falsehood—that believers were to pour effort into turning their flesh around and doing right all the time. Thankfully, Bertha wasn’t finished. “God never intended for you to get better, because you can’t improve flesh,” she said. “But the Holy Spirit, who is living inside you, will enable and live through you.”

She was right. My flesh hasn’t changed one bit. But the Holy Spirit releases His supernatural power in my life, and I find myself going beyond what is inherent to the nature of man. And that’s why He indwells every follower of God.

Although the works of the Holy Spirit are many, four are basic to the life of faith: 1) The Spirit illumines the mind, enabling believers to understand the things of God. 2) He energizes physical bodies to serve the Lord. 3) He enables the will to follow through on doing what is right. 4) He quickens emotions to feel and express the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23).

Bertha Smith passed on an important truth to me: Flesh is insufficient. Only the Holy Spirit living inside us has the strength and wisdom to live out the Christian life victoriously. That’s why God gave Him to us. Through the Spirit, we reap all the benefits of a righteous and godly life.

for those of you who read this and prayed for my strength: tonight in your prayers please praise God and thank him for delivering me from weakness.

tonight after youth group my accountability partner and I asked my youth pastor (Matt Soulia) if we could speak with him in his office. Surprisingly just going into his office was the hardest part, but talking about mine and my accountability partner's problem was easy! May this little miracle of faith spur you on to do those challenging things God asks, you'll find that they're much easier than you think.

thank you for your prayers and please continue, for the battle may be won but the war has just begun for me.

Blessing GOD, Isaac.

We don't realize that the warfare is between Satan and GOD and that Satan hates us so much because he Hates GOD with a horrible passion and desires to bring down what GOD loves and rejoicing that he's hurting GOD by getting us to fall or make us forget that we've been given GOD's very nature, being Blood bought Saints.
Satan writhes in hatred that we've now been given the nature of the Last Adam and not the Adam that he was able to help to fall in the Garden. Boy does he have fury over what Jesus has done in us -- but Greater, Much Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in this world.
Satan may be the god of this world, but he's only a created being that hates the rest of GOD's creation - the earth and everything and everyone in it. As "GOD is Love" - Satan is nothing but 100% putrid Hatred.
If he could get us all lowered to the nature of animals, only seeking food and other things that only concern the body, he'd rejoice that he's the victor over GOD's creation and thinks it's his slap in GOD's Face. Oh no - it won't be a slap in GOD's Face, because those who understand this warfare between Satan and us is over GOD's Love and receiving HIS nature - than we understand what GOD meant by saying that we're MORE than conquerers through Him that Loves us.
We don't have to be Satan's slaves anymore. We have the Spirit of the same Creator GOD Who created All things, even the angels - fallen and otherwise. We have that much power resident within us - but the enemy tries to cloud our understanding of that fact and to keep our minds on only the physical desires. Satan's ideal finished product is what The Word calls twice - "brute beasts" ... mankind lowered to mere animals - with only bodily & self-centered functions & desires governing their lives. That's his finished product ... but not with the Blood bought Saints that prefer GOD's Love over Satan's temptations [products of his hatred toward GOD], the LORD GOD Almighty is Powerful to save.
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also 'make a way to escape', that ye may be able to bear it.

Jesus used the Word against Satan in the wilderness. That is our weapon - the Sword of the Spirit.
Temptations only need to be fought by recognizing now that those temptations are pure lies.
Our replies to those temptations would be - "That's a lie that is NOT coming from me, because I confessed it and He was faithful and just to forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness, period - so it's not in me now, and it's a lie against this new & cleansed creature that Christ died to make me." Resist the devil and he will flee.

Amen, recognizing 'Satan's devices' - knowing he just wants to reduce mankind to mere animals, brute beasts that are governed by their own desires only, as animals are, and all because the enemy is governed by just pure hatred alone for GOD & His creation and wants to destroy it all - we suddenly realize that the warfare is more against GOD and His Love than anything else.
Love Incarnate was on that cross.

Praising The King with you for the victory won in Heaven!
Bless you - Until we all meet Him Face to face in Glory. Amen.
