MJ your question brought back a flood of memories.
I am originally from the San Joaquin Valley in California. I could see forever ~ from the Sierra foothills to the Kettleman Hills. The sun was wonderful. One or two clouds in the sky constituted a cloudy day for me. I often asked the Lord why it mostly only rained at night. Oh, there was the tulle fog but even that had a quiet beauty about it.
Then we moved to the Kitsap Peninsula in Western Washington state.
The trees across the road and on all sides are 30+ feet tall. The only place I could see for any distance was on the ferry. And it was always cloudy, gray and heavy. And it rained. It rained all day and often most of the night.
I kept thinking I would adjust to the different climate. One year, two years ..... At around 5 or 6 years I mentioned I was having trouble with the weather and someone told me it takes 7 years to acclimate. I figured I could hang on that long. The seventh year came and went. And the 8th and somewhere along there I crumbled.
I remember sitting on the edge of the bed weeping uncontrollably because I had the gun in my hand but I knew I wouldn't pull the trigger and I really wanted to. I wouldn't do it because I didn't want one of my kids to come home and find me like that. But even more because I could not face the idea of standing before the Lord and calling Him a liar. The Word says,"I can do all things through Christ.." but I couldn't. Not any more.
I went to my knees and pleaded with the Lord yet again to get me out of here. I said something like "You'll have to get me out of here, or change the weather, or change me."
I wish I could tell you that instantaneously the weather changed or that we moved. Neither of those happened. But little by little, day by day as I trusted and sought Him because I had no strength on my own to cope at all, He changed me. He is Faithful!!!!! He waited until I admitted I could not on my own then He gently changed me.
Now I don't see the clouds. I see the sun peaking through. I love the rain. I just wish the grass didn't grow so fast. But I have grass. =)
It's been 25 years since that time I sat on the bed with the gun. I love my corner with all the trees. I thank the Lord every day as I walk out and look in my woods and hear the birds and see the ferns ~ they are extra tall this year because of all the rain. I am so blessed.
A few years ago I had been to California in the spring. The fruit trees were blooming and things were starting to grow. I looked around and thought everything is brown! Driving back as I was about half way through Oregon it started to rain. I thinking how much I loved the rain and how glad I would be to be back in Washington.
I have since learned there is a name for the depression brought on by the weather: SAD ~ Seasonal Affective Disorder. They even make special lights and things for it. But God took care of it for me. And He will for you.
