How to get the Fear of the Lord

R

I understand today that there is so much absence of the fear of the Lord. But what can we do about this. How do you put the fear of the Lord in people because if you are not careful one can misrepresent the Lord?

The bible teaches that the Lord God Himself will put His fear in our hearts in his new everlasting covenant.

Jeremiah 32:40 (NKJV) And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me.

The bible speaks much about fear and I believe there is an unhealthy fear. I don’t believe the Apostles tried to use fear to motivate people but they preached in the power of the Holy Ghost with many signs and wonders and the fear of God came upon the people by the powerful acts of the Spirit of God.

rbanks is the unhealthy fear you are speaking of due to the elevation of one attribute over another?

rbanks:

I don't believe it is up to us to "put the fear of the Lord into people." Fear is the reverential awe that the one with whom I am dealing is God, the creator of the universe and the one before whom I must give account at the end of all things. It is the recognition of who it really is that I am dealing with. The opposite of fear is, in my opinion, flippancy. If you simply present God as He really is and preach His word uncompromisingly God will take care of the rest. Preach the whole council of God. Don't get caught in the trap of seeing a problem in the body and trying to design a message to counter the problem. In my experience this usually leads to error and imbalance. Simply allow the Holy Spirit to lead you to speak the truth and leave it at that.

Don't get caught in the trap of seeing a problem in the body and trying to design a message to counter the problem.

Trying to "design" a message is wrong - but if you have a true prophet in your group, they'll hit that problem head-on with all the power coming from the Holy Spirit behind them.

The "fear of GOD" is going right out the window, right before our eyes and we don't barely see it happening because of our lack of reverence for The Word of GOD.

We pull a Scripture from here and there to justify whatever we choose to believe and "the 'whole' council of GOD" is Gone.

Because iniquity abounds, the Love of most has grown cold for His Word.

Very good posts everyone!

I believe the one preaching should be so filled with the power and anointing of the Spirit of God that he is preaching with the fear of God. The first thing a preacher is to do is to prepare Himself under the anointing of God to minister the life of the Word and not a letter that kills.

We must keep in mind that it is not by might nor by power but by my Spirit says the Lord. Jesus said the flesh profits nothing but that His Words were Spirit and they were life.
