update on a friend of mine

sermonindex Jun 28, 2011

I had a year ago or so told some on this site of a friend named Stan who was a professing brother in the lord who had a child with a woman who he is living with in an apartment and he stayed in the situation without getting married. But now just talked to him the other day and he said he has been heavily convicted about this lifestyle and told the girl he is staying with they need to get married or he will have to leave. He has been spiritually and physically afflicted and friends have even distanced themselves. He wants to repent and i am very happy to see this. he told me his desire to get married this month and i believe him. Please pray the Lord would work strongly to work in this situation, they plan on getting married in a courthouse. It is the girl he is with who really has been hesitant with getting married so if you could just pray strongly for him and for him to be back in God's will.

John,

Where is this girl in her relationship with the LORD? I would not advise this brother to marry her unless she has repented as well. To marry an unbeliever is getting involved in the unequal yoke, forbidden in the WORD.

Blessings,

I agree with ginny, this is not about escaping a guilty conscience and man's opinion. This is about a unity of a brother and sister coming together to humble themselves together in the Lord. To join their ministry and help each other in serving their Master who is both their Lord and Savior. Putting a stamp on an alliance of the flesh is still an alliance of the flesh. May the Lord embolden you as a witness to the Love and fear God is due.

I'm not sure what your friend should do in this situation, there are pros and cons to both not getting married and getting married. What I do know is that the Lord can work through this situation, so know that I am praying that he does.

I mean I heard the same thing from a friend that he should not marry an unbeliever. It is a tough situation, he has a child with this girl and is living with her. The only thing we can pray is that God would work mightily to get him to do what God truly wants. I really don't know, he probably does not have the self will to break up with her because she is an unbeliever and the fact he had the hardest time just to have a girl want to be with him or like him. He has other Christians telling him to get married too. But, i know these can't be excuses for a child of God, we need to just pray that the Lords will be done.

He has a baby with her? Then they should get married for the sake of the child if both parties are willing. When I married my wife she was hardly a Christian and neither was I for the matter, I knew religion and my wife knew the game called church. I came to the Lord and started getting serious about my walk and she followed as she saw change in me and I in her.

In reality when you have sex with anyone you are yoked to them whether married or not, the child is now two that has become One flesh. They in reality are already united in God's eyes by their relational bond and now the child. We Christians make such a big stink about the formal wedding but often ignore the fact that we unite in spirit despite what the courts, the church, or a piece of paper says. I say marry her if she is willing to marry, repent and no longer live in sin. Live a life pleasing to God and the wife will in time and prayer will follow.

good point, it sounds better than being separatedfrom the baby and her mother, but i will continue to pray God's will in this. Thanks brother.
