Pastors: Homosexuality not a sin

sermonindex Jul 17, 2011

A group of Omaha pastors has issued a proclamation that states homosexuality is not a sin.

More than 100 ordained Christian ministers have signed the proclamation, including leaders from Lutheran, Episcopalian, United Church of Christ, United Methodist, and Presbyterian churches.

David Bydalek is executive director of Family First, the family policy council for the state of Nebraska. He deems this effort troubling for many Nebraskans and contends the ministers involved are from liberal denominations that do not respect the orthodox biblical teaching on homosexuality. ...

More than 100 ordained Christian ministers

Ordained in who's eyes? They are nothing to me but more lost souls.

I use to think that every sin is a sin. After reading this post even though I stand to be corrected Im beginning to have a change of mind. I'm thinkng its more a grievous thing to lead masses to sin than to commit the sin. matthew 5:19. This I believe could pass for a greater sin as stated in john 19:11

The result of any sin is the same... death, judgement and wrath. However, there are sins of varying degrees of seriousness in God's eyes.

Homosexuality is a sin that the Bible say happens when God has "turned them over to a reprobate mind". Scripture does not say that about all sins. But it says it particularly about this sin.

I weep for America.

Something Pat Robertson said has been stuck in my brain because I've been wondering if it's true. (I'm not looking for a commentary on Pat Robertson, please. I just want to know if what he said is true.)

"In history there’s never been a civilization ever in history that has embraced homosexuality and turned away from traditional fidelity, traditional marriage, traditional child-rearing, and has survived."

I didn't live then but I've always read that Ancient Greece embraced homosexuality and they lasted 900 years.

edit: Ancient Rome lasted about 1000 years.

God bless,
Lisa

PS: With no commentary about Pat!! LOL

Dear KrispyKritter...does this mean that they have no chance of being saved? I ask this question, because a young man that was close to our family and a Christian at the time..left and eventually went into this sin.

I never thought of him as reprobate..now am grieving even more if such is the case.

Thanks Lysa! I didn't want this to turn into a bashing of anyone if that should be the case!

I appreciate your response. Your examples are interesting. They lead me to then ask: So, then, was homosexuality part of their downfall, making what was said true? Or is it not true because they lasted so long?

These aren't vitally important questions, and the topic isn't vital either, it all stemmed from my curiosity over what Pat said.

Coffee,

Know this: As long as any human being draws breath, there is hope for them and the chance for them to be saved or restored. Only God knows if He gave a person over to their evil desires for good. Prayer for the man your family knows aren't wasted.

Personally, I don't think what Pat said is true because sin is sin, whether it’s on the macro level or micro level.

True, Lysa. Sin is sin. I don't know the answer to this but there must be some reasons why God ascribes some as abominations, going into more descriptions about them being so wicked, and why He doesn't do that with so many others. He does, after all, have a reason for everything.

Sin is sin, but the Bible is very clear that there are various levels of seriousness of sin. Not all sin is the same. Thinking that it's all the same is to deny the clear teaching of scipture.

Yes, all sin results in wrath and judgement, but certains are a result of God turning people over to their own debased will.

Dear SimpleLiving,

Thank you for the encouraging words, He is like a son to us and we haven't heard from him or about him in over 5 years...We are trusting God for his salvation.

Only God knows the path the young man has taken and where he is and what it will take to draw this young man back to Him.

We are praying for Gods Grace and Mercy in judgment over all.

Dearest Sister Coffee,

I'm blessed that you are encouraged. I am not in the habit of giving up on anyone, regardless of the circumstances because God is not subject to circumstances!

Unless you hear from Him to stop praying for the young man, DO NOT STOP! God will honor you for it. You may never learn the results of what happened with this young man but, even so, your prayers are not in vain!

Brother,

This will be my last post in this thread. I have a job to do in this world and that is to love the LOST no matter what their sins are and that was my basis for saying “sin is sin,” not to “deny the clear teaching of scripture.”

God bless you,
Lisa
