A danger and a threat in this World

A living witness is a danger in this world.

They are a danger to others and they are in danger themselves.

A danger, because they are a threat.

In politics they are a threat to greed and corruption.

In religion they are a threat to the careless and to the self-assured.

To criminals off all sorts and varieties, they are a threat to freedom and longevity in a life of crime.

Silencing the witness is the common response for them all.

But bullets can't silence witnesses, they only shed blood that cries out to God.

Blood, that has a voice all its own.

Genesis 4:10, Revelation 18:24.

Hi Enid, I'm sorry to not respond sooner.

The phrase "I got slugs 4 snitches" is a slang way of threatening murder in retaliation for telling the police something about a crime. A "soft" way of silencing witnesses is for criminals to create an atmosphere of intimidation and fear of retribution for talking to the police.

Somehow I doubt that particular piece of graffiti in the picture was done with that in mind. I could be wrong.

Jesus was The Witness (Ed) to the Truth and the prophets were witnesses.

In religion they are a threat to the careless and to the self-assured. To criminals off all sorts and varieties, they are a threat to freedom and longevity in a life of crime.

They threatened the religious establishment that claimed to know God yet at the same time sought to control men.

They did this by witnessing to the truth.

John 1:6-11
was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

One of the things this teaches us is that truth is not merely propositional, its personal and relational(John 7:7, Zec 8:16). God's Word is sharper than any two edged sword, because it is the truth about ourselves, in relation to God - Who is The Truth.

A right thing can be said rightly and yet still be not altogether true(Proverbs 26:7) because "truth" is not only composed of accurate statements - it must have substance and correspond to reality.

For that reason, the Lord Jesus is not merely called a witness in the Bible, he is The Witness. He was able, not only to speak accurately on any subejct and about any person, He was altogether accurate in His person and being.

Accurate as not merely a representation of God. But The Image of God Himself.

And so when He bore witness to the Truth, He did so, without any flaws in the reproduction.

Yes, of course. Jesus is The Witness.
