C.H MACKINTOSH 1868

“An evangelist goes to a place to proclaim the plain sufficiency of the Name of Jesus for the salvation of the soul (without intervention of human clergy), and there are thousands of listeners hang on his lips. The same servant goes back there later, and while proclaiming the same gospel; he goes one more step further et proclaims the plain sufficiency of the Name of Jesus to respond to all the needs of an assembly of
believers (without intervention of human clergy), and he sees himself attacked from all sides.”

that is because he has made it personal relevant to their life they are living today. Some would use the term meddling this might have cause for personal change.
As long as one preaches a gospel of going somewhere that doesn't require change, your not challenging their personal pet sins. Now when you preach a gospel of the Cross that evokes a whole different realm. That is why the crowd left Jesus saying it was to hard.
