Note to myself: How should I use my time? Should I pray or read or write?
"But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer." (1 Peter 4:7)
Considering...my Bible says: "Watch unto prayer.". It doesn't say to read good Christian books or to keep up with the news or blogs although some activity here is justifiable.. It does say to a general population in 1 Peter to "Watch unto prayer". Much activity in prayer is therefore not only justifiable but good and obedient and right.
I have witnessed enough news to know of riots and rebellions and storms and earthquakes and injustice and oppression and inpurity and unbelief and ignorance and pride. I don't need so much to read more as I need to pray more. Even if it is only for a few minutes, I ought to pray.
The God of Almighty Power and Justice is being denied the honor and glory that He is due to receive. His wrath is stored up ready to be revealed at a great day. The angelic seraphims beheld this Glorious God and cried: "Holy, Holy, Holy" (Isaiah 6:1-3). Jesus Christ is still waiting for the full measure of the Bride that He purchased to be prepared to be brought to Himself (Revelation 21:9). The blood of righteous martyrs from Abel in Genesis 4 to modern Christian martyrs of Asia and elsewhere is not yet resolved with justice. Almighty God is poised to act. The earth is full of His mercy (Psalm 119:64) but His mercy is too little recognized and appreciated as also it is renewed every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Dangers are many. Needs are many. The church is weak and sometimes shameful rather than being a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing but holy and without blemish Ephesians 5:27).
I ought to praise and thank and confess and lament and rejoice and supplicate. I ought to pray.
God answers prayer. God hears prayer and responds to it. Alas, one might easily wonder how much blessing for how many is missed because of a lack of prayer. I ought to pray.
I did pray. Now I write. Now I set myself to pray again.
