I am looking for some suggestions on prayer.How does one organize all of the prayers, prayer requests that one runs across?I find myself flooded with many people who say, "can you pray for me?" or this thought pops in my head and then when I go to prayer the thoughts are lost, disorganized, etc.Any ideas would be apprecated from others who are seasoned intercessors.Grace,Doug
Any ideas would be apprecated from others who are seasoned intercessors.I am not a seasoned intercessor but many times I find myself saying to people that I really can't commit to praying for them but as God leads and brings to remembrance I will. George Mueller used to write names in the bible of people that he would pray through to God. And write the date of when the person came to God above the name once it happened.Having a prayer journal or book of daily prayers and also a listing of people to pray for could be good.
DougMy response is almost an exact replica of what Brother Greg said with just one or two additions. I did learn something from a very powerful brother I fellowship with though. It is concerning our prayer closet. It has been very useful to have this “prayer closet” become a spiritual thing rather than a physical place. It is usual to have two main prayers, one in the morning and the other at night. Personally, I found this overwhelming for all the topics and people that would come up. My brother pointed out this verse to me however 1Timothy2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. Praying everywhere has been very helpful to me. Whenever something comes up or someone asks me to pray I attend to it immediately. No one even notices me do it because I speak very softly or not at all, as I pray in my mind. We are not heard only when we are on our knees but God’s basis for answering prayers is whether it is in line with His will or not. Our responsibility is merely to ask earnestly and humbly. It was difficult at first but now I move everywhere with my prayer closet. When I finally find I private place to pray I do not feel quite as burdened and it easier to get “in prayer”. If I did not pray adequately for something or another, the Spirit will bring it up. It is also far more practical if you have to attend to people all day and you do not have as much time to pray as you would like to.James
