SermonIndex Comic~! must see...

:)This kind of thought has been creeping in to my head too when I'm listening at local church, there's so many good ones recorded and at our fingertips nowadays. This increase in knowledge prophesied is just wonderful and amazing. The internet is such a blessing, and is amazing at how it really does change lives with information.

It is hard to beat the sermons found on Sermon Index!The men of God that I listen to here on SI; I feel like they are my pastors. It is such a wonderful blessing!

Some years ago I was preaching to group of teenagers. I noticed that on the back row I young man was 'plugged in' to his walkman. His head and shoulders bobbing in time to whatever he was listening to.After the meeting I drew alongside and smiling said "good tape?". For moment he looked slightly ashamed and then smiling said "yeh, I was listening to a Mr North sermon". (Mr North being a highly regarded preacher in those circles. Ah the audacity of youth!)

I have to admit, its sometime highly tempting to simply skip church and listen to something on my mp3 player. And yes, Ron's messages are definitly "quite good" although I don't think its the accent.Lyndon

Okay, now I've got to listen to Brother Ron...This comic made me laugh. But perhaps it's a bit sobering too? I was at church this evening listening to sermon that was not bad at all. I mean, it was on-target theologically and mildly inspiring, but I was so fidgety! I kept finding myself paging through the Bible looking up things from other sermons from sermonindex. The pastor's sermon (the actual pastor I was listening to) seemed bland in comparison. It seemed to me that it was all good, but very elementary, and the same thing I'd heard over and over for years. Is this wrong? I mean, is this just moving on to "meat" instead of "milk" or is this just... I don't know... bad?Phebe

Great sermon, Brother Ron! I just listened to "David and Goliath". Some of the stuff I've been listening to by David Wilkerson also talks alot about the covenant.So Greg, how come Brother Ron doesn't have a picture posted next to his sermons like the other guys? :)So Ron, from now on, I'll see all your posts in a British accent.

now what's all this about me having an accent?I am often mistaken for German or Slavic. Some years ago I was in a Kiev hotel and saw an American sitting at breakfast, don't ask me I just knew he was an American. I approached him, smiled and said 'Good morning, can I join you for breakfast?' He looked surprised and said 'Oh, you speak English?'I smiled gently and said 'we invented it'

Yeah, we Americans have a real thing about British and Australian accents (most of us cannot tell the two apart). I knew an American guy that kept interviewing, trying to land a part-time afterschool job, but he was completely unsuccessful. Fortunately, he could put on a very believable (or at least Americans thought so) British accent. He hit upon the idea of doing an entire interview in British English and was hired on the spot--"We need a classy guy like you to run the place up front," the boss said. Of course, after a few months, speaking in an assumed accent for hours a day got old and he quit and went somewhere where they were satisfied to hire regular American drudgery. :)

:lol: :lol: Thanks Ron and Phebe, you made my morning already.Phebe's right, we often can't tell the difference. You may have invented it but we have mastered the art of butchering it...Now if you could hear my 'accent'...Think of 'surfer dude' without the slang.Greg could attest to this... :-D

Mike, ARE you a surfer dude? If so, you must be enjoying the swells with this storm (Santa Clara is in Southern California, right? If not, I'm just showing how little I really know about California). I just turned on the TV just in time to catch the latest on "Storm Watch", complete with scary music. It is amazing how excited and uptight Southern Callies get whenever it starts to do more than drizzle a little. :)

Hehe,Well not exactly. The closet I got to surfing was on a boogie board and after being slammed into the sand after misjudging a wave... :-? Actually we are closer to San Francisco, San Jose is just a few blocks away, would be considered Northern Cal. Those L.A. types...God love em, but they have all those horrendous sports teams... :-P Think we are a little more acclimated to the weather around here, of course you could never tell that by the drivers...Where is San Pedro anyway? Near San Diego? Showing my geographical knowledge (lack of) now...

Yeah, tell me about it. The Lakers will never be the same now that Kobe is running the show...San Pedro is L.A. Harbor. I pretty quirky, down-to-earth place. Mostly Italians and Croatians and Hispanics. San Pedro is the penninsula including the harbor and the bluffs looking towards Catalina. It used to be it's own town, but has been part of the all-encompassing Los Angeles for about 80 yrs or so now...
