DECEPTION? what is SIN?

The New Testament emphasis is clearly one of a walk in the Spirit. Living in the Spirit means that I trust the Holy Spirit to do in me what I cannot do myself. This life is completely different from the life I would naturally live of myself. It is not a case of trying but of trusting ; not of struggling but of resting in Him. I look not to a list of rules but I look to the Spirit of God to produce in me the needed purity or humility or meekness. This is what it means to " stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you " (Exodus 14:13)

dear moonkx, it is very clear in gal:5and 6 that the law is the leaven that leavens the lump. either by grace or by law and if by law, grace has no effect and you are in trouble.

we can see accoring to Acts 15 that keeping the law of moses was not concidered nessasry

but as the letter of paull said ,that gentiles were not under this particual set of laws ,,but were not with out law but being under law towards christ

This misunderstanding called for the first council of the apostles and elders of the first church of Christ. It was determined that the gentiles were not to be bother with the judaism and should only look after certain matters of the law:

4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.

5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

the bible says do not add or take away from scripture

we see the scripture literal says nothing about man made laws but mentions, only the law of moses and circumsision

1 Corinthians 7-17:-
But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk. And so I ordain in all the churches. Was anyone called while circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Was anyone called while uncircumcised? Let him not be circumcised.

So I was called when I was uncircumcised, which means I was called when I lived not according to laws of Moses. So why should I now come under the law? Let me serve God with the Holy Spirit he has given as uncircumcised.

Jesus did not destroy the law but he strengthened it. He gave me a helper (holy spirit) who helps me to keep the laws and I will keep the law that Holy Spirit writes into my heart. The laws of the Holy Spirit are all internal, so it results in internal purification. Eg of the internal law is not to lust with eyes, not to have pride etc. So Sin in New Testament is failing to keep the laws of the Holy Spirit.
Law is like a mirror, it will only show us that we are unclean (sinner). But Holy Spirit is like a gentle hand that cleans my face with love.

What Brother Gary is saying is very important to the Christian.

What man can not do, Jesus did on the cross, He kept the entire Mosaic Law and He was crucified unjustly, thereby the Mosaic Covenant was voided, and was replaced by a far greater covenant, The New Covenant of Jesus, wherein humans are not saved by the works of the Law, but as a gift of God to all who accept Jesus, His atoning Blood, and believe in His finished work on the cross, that by His faith, their sins are forgiven for all time, and that they have God in them, The Holy Spirit, knowing that if they confess their sins, God will always forgive their sins, and HE will cleanse them from all unrighteousness. ..And we shall have eternal life, a gift from God. His blood has washed away our sins for all time.

The Sermon on the Mount was addressed only to His fellow Jews under the Mosaic Covenant, it actually clarified what it takes to satisfy the requirements of the Mosaic Law, and Jesus, Israel's true Chief Rabbi, His teaching to the Jews on this was excellent on how to approach keeping the entire Law.

Upon Jesus death on the cross, God annihilated the Mosaic Covenant.

Zech 11:7-14

7 So I pastured the flock doomed to slaughter, hence the afflicted of the flock. And I took for myself two staffs: the one I called Favor and the other I called Union; so I pastured the flock. Then I annihilated the three shepherds in one month, for my soul was impatient with them, and their soul also was weary of me. Then I said, "I will not pasture you. What is to die, let it die, and what is to be annihilated, let it be annihilated; and let those who are left eat one another's flesh." I took my staff Favor and cut it in pieces, to break my covenant which I had made with all the peoples. Why did God annihilated the Mosaic Law?

The Apostle Paul declared the Mosaic Law to be useless and worthless in that it could not save anyone. Jesus would be the only one to keep the whole Mosaic Law.

Heb 5:5-10
5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him,

"YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU";

just as He says also in another passage,

"YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK."

In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek. NASU

7:1 Melchizedek's Priesthood Like Christ's

For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace. Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.

4. Now observe how great this man was to whom Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth of the choicest spoils. 5 And those indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the priest's office have commandment in the Law to collect a tenth from the people, that is, from their brethren, although these are descended from Abraham. But the one whose genealogy is not traced from them collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed the one who had the promises. But without any dispute the lesser is blessed by the greater. In this case mortal men receive tithes, but in that case one receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives on. And, so to speak, through Abraham even Levi, who received tithes, paid tithes, for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him.

11 Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the Law), what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be designated according to the order of Aaron? For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also. For the one concerning whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar. For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests. And this is clearer still, if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become such not on the basis of a law of physical requirement, but according to the power of an indestructible life. For it is attested of Him, "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK."

18 For, on the one hand, there is a setting aside of a former commandment because of its weakness and uselessness (for the Law made nothing perfect), and on the other hand there is a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. And inasmuch as it was not without an oath (for they indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through the One who said to Him,

"THE LORD HAS SWORN AND WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MIND,'YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER'");

so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant. NASU

Scripture is very clear on this. We Christians are not under the Mosaic Law, But we are under the New Laws of the New Covenant. Before one goes to court, one ought to know what laws are applicable.

Paul warns in Galatians that anyone who places themself back under the Mosaic Law voids what Christ has done for them and remain accursed under the Mosaic Law.

Gal 3

1. "You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Did you suffer so many things in vain — if indeed it was in vain? So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?"

6 "Even so Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS. Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham. The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU." So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer."

10. "For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM." Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH." However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, "HE WHO PRACTICES THEM SHALL LIVE BY THEM." Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us — for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE" — in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

15. "Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it. Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, " And to your seed," that is, Christ. What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise."

15. "Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made. Now a mediator is not for one party only; whereas God is only one. Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe."

"But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise."

Rom 3:19-20
"Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin."

John 3:5-19
"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit."

9 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can these things be?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? "Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony. If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; o that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life."

16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

WORDS MEAN SOMETHING. A Christian ought to know what Christianity is and what covenant they are under. It is a completely different way of living before God. God saves us, we do not save ourselves. We now have daily fellowship God. It is God who transforms us to one who does the good He created us to do, we do not transform ourselves. All we need to do is to continually be in His presence, and walking in fellowship with Him by faith, and talking with Him, trusting Him, loving Him, and believing what He actually did say through His word and WORD.

And we are not lawless. As the book of Hebrews state, that Jesus is not a priest of the temporary order of Levi, but of the superior everlasting Priesthood of Melchizedek, and where there is a change of priesthood, there is a change of Law.

The Laws of Jesus Christ of the New Covenant.

Law 1: The Royal Law of Love.
Law 2: The Law of Liberty.
Law 3: The Law of the SPIRIT OF LIFE in Christ Jesus.

The last one is from Romans Chapter 8, and refers to the indwelling Holy Spirit, God in me - us Christians, the helper that Jesus said would come into us after His death, WHO prays for us and transforms our very nature that we may be pleasing to God.

Friends,

The fear of the LORD is the BEGINNING of wisdom. To fear God is to hate evil.

I believe "The fear of the Lord" is the most precious "gift" a man can have. For, he will simply not dare to do anything against God (to whatever light he has) out of fear for Him.

Now, don't mistake me - "Love" is the supreme thing. Jesus said "If you love me you will keep my commandments".

Simply put,
1. Because you "fear" God, you keep the law - This is Old Testament.
2. Because you "love" God, you keep the law - This is new testament.

And the NT standards are actually far more superior to OT standards.
OT - You shall not kill (external)
NT - You shall not even be angry without cause. (internal & external)

OT - You shall not commit adultery (external)
NT - You shall not even lust with your eye. (internal & external)

But I think most of you will agree with me that in our life's journey, we do not directly come into this new covenant life. It starts with us striving to keep the law... and we fail fail fail...but while we fail we are also becoming less and less confident in ourselves and crying out to God for victory over sins. Slowly...yeah, slowly, with God's mercy, goodness, grace and strenght, we begin to hate the sins and are keen to forsake them. When God punishes us for our sins, He also puts that "fear" into us which is such a precious thing... which serves as a "danger signal" to warn us always.

Once we have the heart to "hate sins", we become so free! Free to love God more and more. But let the fear always be there so that we don't dare to go against God intentionally even in our weakest moments.

CONCLUSION:
"Fearing God" & "Loving God" are both required to keep ourselves from sins. While we are in this mortal flesh, we need both of them. But, there will come a blessed day at the end of this life's journey when we can PERFECTLY LOVE GOD when there will be no more presence of sin. Blessed day that is!
