Cleansed from all unrighteousness
"If we walk in the light, the blood of Jesus His Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1 John 1:7,9
Unrighteousness Strongs word G93 adikia meaning: injustice, of a judge, unrighteousness of heart and life, deed violating law and justice, act of unrighteousness.
The same God who forgives sin will also cleanses us from unrighteousness of heart and life as well as acts of unrighteousness.
Cleansing is no less a promise of God than is forgiveness therefore, it is a matter of faith. Cleansing, as well as forgiveness is obtainable from God even if it seems impossible for man. What is cleansing? The word comes from the Old Testament. While forgiveness was a sentence of acquittal passed on the sinner, cleansing was something that happened to him and in him.
We are set free from unrighteousness by the working by the Holy Spirit. Through cleansing we obtain the blessing of a pure heart a heart in which the Spirit can complete His operations with a view to sanctifying us and revealing Christ within us..
Both forgiveness and cleansing are through the blood of Jesus. The blood breaks the power that sin has in heaven to condemn us and the blood also breaks the power of sin in the heart which holds us captive, it cleanses the conscience from dead works so we can serve the living God.
Cleansing is through faith and must be received by faith before it can be experienced and felt. Through the cleansing power of the blood, the lust in us which leads to sin is mortified and the certainty of power against sin is awakened.
Forgiveness is the beginning of a holy life and we must come to yearn for a Holy life but we must understand that cleansing comes by faith through the blood which is worked by God Himself.
