Question about different streams of Islam?

I understand.d the two main streams of Islam are the Sunni's and the Shi'ites. The Sunni's come out of Saudi Arabia while the Shii'tes come out of Iran. Traditionally these two streams of Islam have been enemies. Can anybody tell me why? Also what are the differences between the Sunni's and Shi'ites?

I realize questions of Islam may go beyond the scope of this forum. But our con call prays for the persecuted church in these regions and I am trying to understand the religious dynamics of these areas. Any thoughts?

Hi Blaine,
There is a brother named Chris Medearis who was a missionary in Lebanon with his family for 12 years. He is now considered an expert in Islam. He has some youtube videos. I found some of what he had to say helpful. I am not sure if he touches base with the sheas and summis though, but thought this may be helpful still.

Hey Bro, You may want to edit your post by correcting the names Sommi's to Sunni or Sunni's and Sheas to Shia or Shi'ites, I would have IM'd you but that feature no longer exists on here.
