Girls at Kidz Klubs

While most people are getting concerned about the world's economies, world governments, I have another problem. It concerns the girls at our Kidz Klubs.

We have 10 10-12 year-olds. They are all black, come from the poorest community in the county, come from single parent homes that for the most part are dysfunctional.

Last night it was bad. They were so out of control, in spite of our efforts to control them: they were wild physically, body movements erratic, spoke African - which I cannot understand - to me deliberately...

One of the organizers suggested the one girl may be a victim of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, hence her inability to control herself.

When they come into the building they are swinging, flaying their arms, legs, moving at a half dance, bending, stooping, falling to the floor, rolling...it is as though they do not know how to walk upright with a smooth gait.

HELP! How would you handle this situation?

I have been thinking about this all night long...I am coming up with a tentative plan, but is there someone out there who has experience with some wisdom to share?

Some kind of physical activity to get the energy out before you try to begin anything serious for that session.

When our younger boys are wound up we send them to the trampoline.

Perhaps you could give them a one-to-one personal counselling when they are in better moods?
