What a wonderful story of God's Good Providence I have to tell. Our 1984 Honda was dead for a wee kand we were stranded. We didn't know what was the problem. It had spark and the starter turned. It would kill the battery with just a short try at cranking. The plugs would be soaked in gas, too. The air filter was clear. Last week we had flushed the cooling system and afterwards it overheated badly.
Hubby checked the oil and it was full to the top of the stick. ? ? ? Thought and prayed about that some more. If it wasn't water, what was it? We ended up draining the oil pan to see what was up. It was full to the brim with gasoline and oil. The fuel pump had ruptured and was pumping gas into the engine. It filled the cylinders and the engine block. It could not even turn over it was so full. We drained it all, as much as we could. Took the plugs out and cranked it to blow as much out as possible. Ordered a fuel pump on-line, we had no way to get to a store. Delivery took only 2 days even though they had told us it would take 2 days just for shipment confirmation, that was the 1st taste of the blessing. Installed the new pump and it started. Ran terrible and smoked like a mosquito fogging truck. My husband drove it around the block and the smoking lessened. We went to town to give it a good run. How marvelous it was to be able to go somewhere. On the way to town it was running rough and shaky and would hardly reach 40 mph. On the way home, it smoothed out and attained speeds just as if it had not been 'sick.' When it is working correctly, it gives about 42 MPG and is currently our only transportation, outside of neighbors taking us.
After we got it going, before we tried driving it, we were looking for a loose vacuum hose and saw gas pumping onto the engine. Gulp. The hose connecting to the fuel filter was crumbled at the connector. That may have been happening for some time as we have been smelling gasoline every time we drove. The mileage may pick back up. It had dropped from 40+ to 30+.
We are still hopeful God will direct us on how to 'heal' our pick-up. Maybe I mentioned that? My husband had installed a oil pressure gauge and used the nylon line provided in the package. Parked the truck under our shed and didn't drive it for a couple of weeks. While it sat, squirrels chewed through the nylon line, causing the truck to hemorrhage as we drove it. It has a nasty knock now and we are sure at the least the oil pump is shot. Probably the bearings as well. Who knows what else. We had driven 15+ miles before we noticed the oil pressure was 'Zero.' It is an old truck, 1992, but we have only had it for about a year. It was our most reliable vehicle. Can't bring ourselves to junk it. Especially now that the Honda was brought back to life. All things are possible, through Jesus. :-)
