On January 20th when President Bush is re-inaugurated for Presidency, he will put his right hand onto the bible before being sworn in. The tradition is not one found in the Constitution, but it is one kept by every president since George Washington, with the exception of Theodore Roosevelt after McKinley’s 1901 assassination. Michael Newdow, notorious for his earlier “Under God” lawsuit, has filed suit saying that the Christian ministers who pray at the inauguration, the Christians songs sung, and the swearing with bible all violate the Constitution’s Establishment Clause. Newdow has also re-filed his earlier-dismissed case to excise “Under God” from the pledge on behalf of 8 other parents.
