Romans 13:1-7 clearly teaches the believer is to be in subjection to the governing authorites. Even when the government consist of an oppressive political system the believer is to obey. When Paul wrote these passages Nero was the emperor and his reign was oppressive. Yet the Christian is to to obey the government. No probkem. I mean laws regarding stealing or murder the believer will obey those laws with a clear conscience.
But what happens when the government passes laws that say following Jesus Christ is illegal? Or passes laws that owning a Bible is illegal? Or passes laws that say gathering with other followers of Christ is illegal? Or passes laws that evangelizing in the name of Jesus is illegal? What happens when the state declares itself to be god and it it alone will be worshipped? Will the Christian submit to such laws in accordance with Romans 13:1-7.
This is not some theorectical example I am describing. What I have put before you exist in 52 or more nations to varying degrees. It will soon happen in N. America? Each saint will have to weigh before God what they will do. What will your answer be?
