New habits for the New Year

How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. Psalm 119:9 (ESV)

We all meditate, and we’re all shaped by the object of our meditation. Will I be shaped by sitcoms, soap operas, and newspapers? Or will I be shaped by God’s Word, and the writings of people such as A. W. Tozer and Charles Spurgeon?

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time” (Eph. 5:15–16). Why not redeem two hours a day that you would have spent on television, video games, hobbies, or working overtime? Use it to establish new habits of cultivating your inner life. Meditate on Scripture. Read a great book. Fill your life with the best things, those that honor and glorify God.
