Homeschoolers React to Obama's Education Demand

sermonindex Jan 26, 2012

Tuesday night in his State of the Union address President Obama called on all states to raise their school compulsory attendance age to 18, a move that stirred verbal backlash from homeschoolers.

"So tonight, I am proposing that every state—every state—requires that all students stay in high school until they graduate or turn 18,” Obama said on Tuesday night.

The Home School Legal Defense Association, or HSLDA, contends that the new age requirements would unnecessarily add to bureaucratic requirements for homeschoolers. ...

...I have not watched a Presidential address in 3 years.

It's all bluster. He cant do anything without approval from the senate or congress, and right now they arent about to do anything too controversial because this is an election year.

I don't watch anything about the republicans or Obama but you probably ought to keep an eye out on it... just in case he gets re-elected. Just saying...

Key word he said was "until they graduate or are 18". Well... My homeschooled children are about two grades ahead, so if they graduate early, like at 16, Obama has no problem with it.

Not really an issue in my opinion. Kids should stay in school until they graduate.

Hi Lysa...long time. no hear....good to see your still here.:)

Don't think anything but God can stop his reelection, but at least we as Christians know the God is still in control, so regardless, we have to stand on Romans 8:28.

We homeschooled our son until he was 15, and then a secular high school.

He aced high school, with a full boat scholarship, with hardly no study...and I believe that he was far ahead of the ciriculum, due to the quality of the home school idea.

This is almost typical with homeschoolers. Yet, believe me, the idea that parents have control of their children, infuriates the socialists, and the screws are tightening to make it harder, and harder, with many states demanding that one of the parents have a degree to teach in the home.

Many parents have moved to free states to avoid these laws...seeing 666 move to the classroom...and their right.

Evolution, politically correct socialism, and grievous sexual identity issues are taught as the norm in the classrooms of America, and Jesus as Lord is illegal now in most schools.

Just like abortion, whether the Christian is affected or not, we the church ought to stand up and resist this trend. This is what the underground church in China is all about....No! We wiil not!...but serve the Lord!
