As I read this verse I understand that from ch.4-22 it is all future. Then as I study the whole book from 4 on it is all future. amen????

Dave, I would understand it so likewise.
The key word, IMHO, is "hereafter" which occurs at the end of the verse.
Personally, I love Revelation. The bottom line is that there will be a lot calamities but Jesus will be victorious.

I think Revelation 1:19 outlines the book, "Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter."
Here we have three tenses: 1. what he had seen (past). 2. The present that 'are' (present). 3. What will take place hereafter. (future)
Depending on the particular eschatological (end times) view, the end of chapter 3 is said by some dispensationalists to be the present Church era (Laodicean). This view falls into the category of 'futurist'.
Full 'preterests' see the whole Revelation as having been fulfilled in the 1st century. Others take a 'partial preterest' view saying some is already fulfilled. The lesser known approaches are historicist and idealist.
I think our passage in Revelation 1:19 gives a good outline. Prophesy is particularly difficult to approach dogmatically.

Your position, the Futurist View, is definitely the most popular view today but the others are worth noting. If you do a search on those terms you can find out lots of information on each position.

would like to show some ideas which show a view of all the different aspects of views.
The pope says that all Revelations is symbolical and not literal. Jesus says in Matt. 24 that all the birth pangs are the beginning of things to come ---my words. The tribulation must come as the Jews state often in the O.T. it is to cleanse the earthon behalf of the Jews first. it is callled the time of Jacob's trouble.
It is also historical as well as future that Jesus is sitting on the throne at the father's right hand. first after the cross he went back to heaven and also he will come back on the second time.
All the symbols or visions which John had was to kep secret the work of God from thoe who were agnostic and trying to pervert the truth. Jesus said I thank you father that you have hid these things from the wise and prudent.
Even as we speak the nations are preparing for Armegeddon. They are saying they hate Israel and the Americans----who help her. Jesus will literally come to earth Rev. 20 and set up the throne of king David, which first will be ocupied by the Anti-Christ. Just like David's son Abijah tried to take Solomon's throne.
Zech. 14:9 shows David's seed will sit on the throne. A temple is being built right now in Israel. There is so much more but we who are Christ's one day will spend eternity with God in heaven. literally.

The Geneva bible commentary on revelation shows much of the writing is describing this unholy antichrist named pope and the harlot-counterfit church he heads. What I have seen so far is a very enlightening read though it is lengthy and I haven't dove very deep into it. I was shocked to see these things at first because they are similar to what the Lord had previously shown me about the counterfit christedom even of our day. I am not sure which official view of revelation Geneva fits in, maybe someone else could comment on that.

Amen brother Robert I also believe Rev1; 19 is the key scripture to understand the book of Revelations. And like you ginnyrose I love this book for the glorious Christ who is reaveled to all mankind. He is indeed Victorious hallelujah!
I read or listen to Revelation as part of my discipline of going through the New Testament. Much of its symbolism alludes me. But John does say one is blessed if one reads or listens to it. I find this to be true.
One thing I get a sense of is Jesus is coming back and coming back soon. While not understanding the particulars the signs that are laid out in the gospels are coming to pass. We see the increase in earthquakes, famine, disease and pestilence. Certainly the wars and rumors of wars. The world is closer now. The economy is linked globally. Daniel's prophesy of knowledge increasing in the end times has certainly come to pass. It's called the internet.
The thing to watch for is global political union. This is already being discussed by various think tanks, UN, Council on Foreign Relations, Trilateral Commission, and so forth. All that is needed is something to lush the world into unification.
Persecution of Christians is on the increase and will become more prevailent as the NWO is ushered in. A new world religion is arising. which will be a blend of Islam, Judaism, Christianity, new age, and anything else you want to throw in.
There will be a world leader to arise. This will be the antichrist. This world leader will be the political and spiritual leader of the world. He will be called messiah. All, who do not follow Jesus, will be required to take his mark. Probably a microchip. This will show allegiance to the antichrist. For those who follow Christ and refuse the mark their lot will be prison and death. But they will be victorious.
Unless you think I am whacking out on a Tim LaHaye book watch for Israel and Iran. I was listening to an Israelie journalist who has credible info that Israel may launch a first strike against Iran. That being if Iran developed a nuclear weapon to use against Israel. If Israel attacks Iran guess who is allied with Iran. Russia and China. Then the march to Armageddon.
Do I believe this? Yes I do. All the more reason to be about the King's business and to occupy till he returns.

I would also urge you to research some of the other views of Revelation besides the "futurist" view.
I was a die hard "left behind" sort of believer until I actually heard good teaching on alternate views, which of course I never heard in any church I ever attended.

I appreciate your out put. There is a huge understanding in my learning as of late. My statement may be difficult at first to understand but please watch for a moment.
This is a encouragement. The Jewish people see the time of Jacob's trouble in a different way than we do. We call it the great tribulation of 7 years. The Jews call it a time of cleansing.
example----the big bush outside my house, is getting big each year. Sometimes you have to hurt it. Maybe it will bring forth next year or maybe not. This year it is back and ready to bloom. It had to be hurt or it would get to big.
Though maybe not the best analogy it works.
The Jews see that after the trib. is over, the division of the peoples will be restored to a united Israel. Also that sin will be cleansed by Messiah who they are not looking for the right one but Jesus will come to bring the feast of tabernacle joy once again. They believe in a peace which Isaiah tells of ch.11: the prophets told us all we know about the future except it was misinterpreted concerning Jesus. They call him Yeshua. There is no J. in Heb. Pentecost allows all to call him the name in their lanquage.
Trib. is like a exile to the Jew. Then comes redemption. Kind of like coming out of Egypt. They still know it is all about the sacrificial lamb. The blood must be from the Lamb of God to be saved and delivered though. He is our Yom kippur. He is our passover 1Cor. 5:7.
by the way unleavened bread is the next day after passover. Jeus being the bread of life. He is unleavened from the doctrine of the Pharisees. It means he is without sin---no leaven. He would have to be leavened to take on sin on himself. He can carry it away like a scapegoat. the scapegoat didn't carry sin. He was only a representative picture. Just like when we partake the bread and cup it is not really his body and blood but is a symbol of it as though it really was his.
We do that to remember him and his completed work. By faith we count it as real. It is our faith in that which makes it just like it is . Our sins are forgiven by faith.
We never saw them really go by-by. We believe they are gone and forgiven--by faith. Faith means it is finished.
