What Would Happen If.........

sermonindex Mar 10, 2012

Sara Blakeky is said to be the youngest female billionaire in the U S. I believe she is in her late twenties or early thirties. As I listened to her biography it said she listened to a set of motivational tapes while in high school. She listened to the tapes so many times that she could memorize their message and content. Obviously these tapes shaped her thinking to the degree she made a success of her self.

Granted that Sara's success is worldly but this got me thinking. What would happen if we would listen to the New Testament like Sara did those motivational tapes? Would we not be transformed by the renewing of our minds? Could we not be a success where it counted the most? In the things of eternity?

Neilson, who do much media research, says the average person spends 4 hours a night watching TV. This is not counting the internet, social media, or video games.

What would happen if we would spend 4 hours a night listening to or reading the word? Ok, too much? How about 2 hours? Still too much? One hour? Thirty minutes? I can hear it now. I don't have the time. Yet we find time for other things we like.

Jesus told his listeners that the people of this world are more shrewed dealing with their own kind then are the people of this light. Here we have a worldly young woman who listens to motivational tapes and changes her thinking and succeeds. Yes, it is worldly. And we will judge her. But think. What would happen if we woukd listen to the wotd of God daily and believe its message.......

Have you committed to this Blaine?

I remember the last thread that you started like this, it motivated to setup the bible on my iPod so that I can listen to it every night before I got to sleep and I usually listen to it for 20 minutes when I wake up. I don't do it every night, sometimes I play music but the nights that I do listen I wake up blessed.

Yes brother. I have committed to it. On average I am targeting 3 to 4 hours a day mainly listening to the word. I am legally blind so listening to the New Testament is easier for me than reading. Also early hours of the morning are best for ne to listen to the.word. Minimal distractions. Also something special about that time with Jesus. Something powerful about the spoken word. My prayers more powerful after being in the word. I am going to try listening to the wotd like you before going to bed. Should be a blessing.

Other times I listen to the word are when I walk. Get both the spiritual and physical benefits. Much blessing being in the word. Really want my life to change and be like Jesus.

My, that's a 'novel' idea :)

Thank you Brother. Refreshing thread.

What Would Happen if? We may then be able to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and would 'think' The Word instead of our own thoughts.

The housewives that I know [sister-friends], don't watch TV and listen to the Word on CD at home and in their car. No need to stop working to listen.

What Would Happen if...? I truly appreciate this title and thread. Thank you!

Hi Blaine,

I put the whole New Testament on a playlist on the iPod but had to remove the book of Revelation from the playlist because more than once I've woken up when the angels were blowing their trumpets, lol. Additionally that free version that I think you and I both listen to is kind of creepy when you hear Jesus casting out 'legion' and it wakes you up at 2AM but the benefits far outweigh the distractions. I really like the format of the audio though it has helped me understand things better more than once!
